Well....I bit the proverbial bullet.
Left the Yamaha line-up of 17 years and bought a black, 1125CR Buell...
It's apparently an early version, manufacturing date of Aug. 08.

Spent the later part of the day -
-Properly filling the tires.
-Removed the passenger pegs and brackets.
-Painted the front caliper flat black.
-Removed most all of the stickers.
-Gave it a coat of wax.
-Adjusted the brake and clutch handles, (the rear brake and shifter were fine as is).
-Adjusted the suspension (most of it !)
-Wrapped the rear cylinders exhaust with ceramic tape from just behind the sensor to where it touches the front cylinder tube. This was mostly to keep some heat away from the water pump. Will do the front cylinder tomorrow...keep some heat out of the right radiator.

This brings up the "dumb" question...
Laugh if you like........
Just what tool is used for adjusting the rebound (upper) on the rear shock ...?
I tried several small screw drivers, both metric and US. Allen wrenches....all with no luck !
Sure...a 1/2" open-end wrench will turn the adjuster...about an 1/8th of a turn..!
I guess I could modify a 6 point socket !

The dealer seems to have put 14 miles on it. I'll start the break-in procedure tomorrow.

Thanks for the help...

Mike

Hey Mike,

All the tools that are needed to adjust any suspension needs are in the tool kit located under the rear pavilion seat.

Yeah- give that OEM tool kit a look see- I had the exact same question until I looked through the tool kit and discovered the 9" long hex head wrench was part of the kit

Welcome!

Sounds like you are describing the rear shock compression damping adjuster. Just making sure you don't get them confused with tinkering.

Hmmm...saw the took kit...even opened it and too a quick look! The long Allen tool was at the bottom of the pack...didn't see it !

Thanks all.

Swapping the caliper with someone would have been great...didn't think to ask..!

Thanks for the offer on the foot peg. I normally hang onto all the stuff I take off, just in case the next owner wants it. Hopefully...this thing will live a nice long life with few problems like my last coupla bikes though..miles wise.

As to mixing up adjustments...na, the little pocket manual is pretty clear on what does what. I'll find what I like after a few miles, I'll keep playing with the adjustments till I get there.

Pariah -
I'll have to wait till I get back to work (long holiday). My dial up will take for ever to load that..but thanks, I will take a look.

Thanks again everyone.

Oh, yeah... Congrats on the new bike!

In the CR lineup, the red ones are faster, but the black ones handle better...

Enjoy!
