Maybe I just haven't figured this one out yet, but I find this feature just about useless in real life. When the motor is warming up, the tach needle will light up at about 5500 rpm. When I first saw that I thought it might be connected with the 6000 rpm break-in limit, but it is meant as a caution to hold the revs down while the engine is warming up. When riding, the needle is supposed to turn bright red at red line - but things are happening so fast at that point that I can't honestly say I have noticed it - just the rev limiter coming in at about 10k rpm. Is there a way to program when it illuminates?

I was thinking of getting a small shift light much better than the needle turning red and cost around 100 dollars and is programable, if you are thinking of racing this is the way to go, and is what I am doing, not sure if I will mount it under the top windshield or on top of the tach. Mike

Who needs a shift light when you have a rev limiter?

Kidding aside, I rarely look at the tach on the track, once familiar with the engine you get a sense of where it's spinning by sound and feel.

Agreed, I don't see the need for it. But if Buell retains it going forward, they need to make it usable. It should be programmable, at least, and the lights need to be on the outer case of the instrument pod - three of them, and phased. What the heck - it's a non-issue, really, as this bike is so amazing in every other way.
