I met an X1 rider on Monday's ride home. It was on TN Hwy 25 just east of Cross Plains. He has a VERY clean 99' reactor yellow. He had his Son with him. I told him to come here to BWB and give me a shout.

Hopefully he will log in sometime soon and say hello. Any Buelligans we can find in middle TN is great.

Yeah, I wish I would have had the foresight to see that happening. I originally was looking at an 1125 possibility when I sold my S3 but decided the list price for a new one was just too much for me.
I ended up picking up a used VFR for $7,100. I should have waited. Not that the VFR isn't a nice ride, I just really miss the torque.

Hey all, I'm looking for some advice and can't think of a better place to ask than BWB.

Back in the middle of May I took my 2002 M2 Cyclone into my usual Harley service shop to get a new rear tire, and to cash in on the warranty on my Full Force Exhaust. I bought the exhaust system from the same Harley dealer about 2 years prior, and it was starting to rust (badly). I was told that if it rusted that I could bring it in, Harley would send it to where they bought it and either get it re-dipped or replaced. This is where the trouble started.

The service guys called me and asked where I got the exhaust. I told them I bought it from them, so they asked me for the receipt. It took me a day or two, but I dug it up. After a week and a half, they called me and asked me if I knew where they got it from. WTH?! So, at this point, I wanted it fixed, so I did some research and found out where THEY got it from. A Force dealer in Arizona. So I wait...and wait. Every time I wanted an update on my bike, "I" had to call. They tell me they're working on it. I ask them what is going to be covered under the warranty, they tell me that I will only have to pay shipping to and from for the pipes. Fair enough.

At this point, it's near the end of July, I still have to call them for updates, they tell me they're having trouble with the people in Arizona. The people in Arizona finally re-coat the pipes and send it back. They put the pipes on the bike and take it out for a test ride and my belt snaps. It already had a small tear in it, so that was no surprise. They order a new belt ($175) and tell me it takes almost 6 hours of work to put it on. My total bill jumps up to $1465 now.

Here's what ticked me off about the whole thing. It's now August, I haven't had my bike since the middle of May. I missed a vacation ride to the Dragon that I go to every year with friends, I've missed 8 annual rides with friends (poker runs, charity rides, etc), I've had to drive my truck to work vice my bike which I exclusively use during the summer, and I've paid insurance on a bike that's been sitting at the Harley service center for months. My summer riding for 2009 is all but gone.

My question is what the heck can I do? I've been with these guys for years and years and I respect them alot. They've taken care of me, but I've always paid what they've asked without bickering. I think they should have known where they bought the exhaust from and should have had a process to fulfill the warranty. I feel that I shouldn't have had to do the research and that I shouldn't have had to call every time I wanted an update. I've lost just about the best 3 months to ride here in Maryland waiting on my bike. I think they should cut me more of a break on the cost for all this and I don't know how to convey that without being an a**. Am I way off-base on this? I like these guys but the bill seems a bit much for everything I've been through. Thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

If you have not talked to the service Manager, talk to him. If you have then talk to the Owner of the Dealer. You have been patient and seems to have been very reasonable, even though they have taken much, much too long to do a 2-3 hour job.

The belt is another story. They will charge you flat rate on that and it's been too many years since I changed a belt on a tuber to know if that is a reasonable amount of time. Yeah it would be nice if they cut you some slack on the belt cost or labor rate since you are soooo understanding and patient.

I talked with the President of the dealship and explained everything to her. The service manager was away but will be back in the morning. The Prez said she'd talk with him in the morning and go over the details and see what they can do for me, so there's hope yet. Appreciate the responses and will let you know how this turns out.

Anybody got a recommendation for a good shop in Brooklyn NY? Brooklyn HD is snobby, rude, and the hours are worse than Banker's hours. Not to mention a crappy location.

Head to Jersey to Liberty in Rahway. They are your best bet. If not, New Roc in New Rochelle works in a pinch, but I have been disappointed with their parts department.

Got my bike back. The end cost wasn't too bad, but I won't go back to this service shop again, regretfully. When asked what they could have done better, I offered these thoughts: Call routinely to keep the customer updated on the status of the repairs instead of waiting for the customer to call. Find another pipe (same kind or similar in cost) to put on the bike while waiting for the pipe I bought to come back from Force since it, as they told me, would come back looking like new. This would get me back on the road. And last, show a little loyalty to a customer who's been with them since they've opened. I know some of these are too much to be expected, but that was just my take as a frustrated customer.

On a side note, I'm very happy to be back on my Buell and look forward to hitting the roads of Maryland, VA, and PA. Thanks for all the PM's, great advice.

Just got back from Kansas City tonight, nothing spectacular, the Royals lost, again, but and a big one:

I saw a Buell coming down Broadway, that was cool, then I realized it was a Police Buell. Too cool.

We also ate at Gates BBQ. I just couldn't believe how much I miss that place.

There is a California version of the Buells that have additional devices on like a carbon canister to capture gas vapors. I believe the bike needs to have over 7500 miles on it to be imported to California. Check with the DMV before pulling the trigger. : )

Buell makes a "Dom" (49 state) and a "Cal" version. Only California models may be sold new in California.

There are specific requirements for bringing in a used non-California bike.

Check the DMV website for specifics.

Primary chain adjuster upgrade
Front exhaust mount
Keep your exhaust nuts snug
Fuel filter recall
Metal rocker box gaskets
01' Shifter
Brake lever bushing
Lube clutch cable and lever
Check screws in the throttlebody shaft

What kind of mods have been done to your S3? Is it a an S3 or S3T?


I'll dig up some picts of "Sparky" and show her off. She led a troubled life in 14 months and 24,000+ miles but.... she was a heck of a lot of fun for my introduction to being a Buelligan!

I have a question. I called about a part for my buell right before H-D shut down buell and it was $25. I called today and the same part was $57!!!! Are H-D dealerships jacking up the price of parts since buell took a nose dive??
