2008 Buell 1125R Black. $6500

1,952 miles

Eric Buell ECM Racing chip
Custom Fatty's Aggressive Machinery exhaust.
K&N airflow system.
Battery tender.
Fender Eliminator kit.
Registered through June of 2014.

This bike is loud and fast. The first owner spent a LOT of time and money to make it the perfect Buell. All factory recalls were already handled by Antelope Valley Harley Davidson. It's got a good set of pirellis on it and is ready to ride.

The only thing on this bike which is not absolutely perfect appears to be a dog bite on the right intake. Personally, I think it matches the rough and ready character of this bike, and just adds to the feel of the thing.

Bike also comes with the original stock exhaust, the owners manual

I love the bike, but I'm discovering that my knees, wrists, and insurance payment combined make this a bit too aggressive a ride for me.

I do still have a loan on the bike, so we'll need to head down to Logix Credit Union to finish the sale.

down to $6400.

existing loan is $5300, so if someone wants to talk to Logix about assuming my loan (payments at $139 a month) and get me some cash, that's an option too.

Someone suggested I should explain WHY I'm selling it. This isn't short.

When Erik Buell first released the shorter than an r-6, lighter than air, sensitive suspension, fuel in the frame, wierd brakes Vtwin modern marvel that was the xb9, I tried it. And I lamented the engine. Then the xb12 came out, and I tried it, and I tried to talk myself into it... but the engine.

Then he put an Austrian built 10,500rpm 1125cc water cooled beast in it. And I was unemployed. I was livid. THAT was the bike I'd wanted my whole life, but no one ever made.

Flash forward a few years. I'm employed, bought a house, doing ok. Time to get another bike... 1125's are out there, and... well.. I've never owned a world class bike. I've never owned a bike with PERFECT suspension, INCREDIBLE brakes, and a motor that scared the whimpering piss out of me. And I WANTED ONE.

Within a month I was up to Antelope Valley HD to pick up my <2,000 mile old 2008 Buell 1125R in black. It wasn't perfect, Some large dog had left bite marks on one of the intakes... and all I could think was, DAMN, what better mark could such a raw beast of a motorcycle have?

The previous owner had put in K&N's, chipped it, put on a custom one off exhaust that was loud as sin, and twice as fast, fender eliminator, gone monoposto, and just turned it into a beast.

I was getting over way farther in my favorite turns, after years off a bike without any effort, and without really pushing the bike at all. I have a shameful confession to make. Despite my dads Stock-ET winning bandit, my friends FZR1000, My string of FZ's and SV's, This bike had done something to me that no other bike I had any real time did. I've owned this bike for 3 months and I have NO IDEA what it's real top speed is. Sure, I could read it in a mag, but that's bull. I know it gets to 140 indicated (whatever that means in real, I have no idea) and still has a LOT left on the tach, and the engine is raging and ready to keep going. I felt like I was just barely hitting the power curve. I've never even once bounced the thing off the rev limiter in any gear. This is a shameful admission for a canyon junkie.

It's loud. it hurts my knees and wrists with it's aggressive posture. It's sensitive to body position. It'll lift the front wheel accelerating out of uphill turns. It's a beast. It's EVERYTHING I EVER WANTED...

until I got it.

I go to a pretty posh hair stylist. I go because she's my friend and I knew her through her ex. Long ago, I was hanging out with her as she was finishing up airbrushing a peacock feather onto the side the now bright purple headed (male) client of hers. Her own hair was bright pink and shot up like the tail of some exotic bird behind a pair of chopsticks in her bun. I sat down in the chair, my mousy brown, grayer than I used to like to admit hair in a boring, outgrown oxford cut, and said to her,
"Annie, I don't want this. I want to do something exciting, something different."

She spun me around, handed me a mirror and walked around looking at my head, and then came back, and looked at my face, and looked me up and down.
"No James, you're a normal haircut guy. So I'll give you the best normal haircut you've ever had"

And she did just that. A great, perfectly appropriate, boring oxford cut. And she's right. it's who I am.

My last 3 bikes were SV650s. I kept saying I wanted that bike, but with a little more power, a little better suspension. But in my head, I told myself I was lying to myself, I said I would always want MORE POWER and less weight, and all the superbike things they're selling this year.

Well, I was wrong. I don't want a bike that scares me anymore. I don't want it to do tricks or be impressive or anything. I can have fun riding my friends vespa. I want a bike that's kind and calm and forgiving. I want a bike that lets me make mistakes and change my mind in the middle of turns. And yes, I will outride people on "better" faster bikes, not because I'm a better rider, but because I'm not battling a beast, I'm just having a good time on a bike I trust implicitly.

I think I'm going to take the winter off, get some more financial recovery done, and probably pick up a Street (not speed) Triple R in the spring time. It'll have great suspension. It'l be light. It'll have an engine that's no slouch, but that prides itself more on smooth power delivery than on devastating torque.

The Buell is for sale, if anyones interested. It's got under 2,000 miles on the clock, and if you want something loud, obnoxious, precise, and with torque for days, it's the right bike for you. I respect this bike. I even LOVE this bike, but it's not MY bike. It's a bike for someone not like me. It's a bike for someone who wants to be scared, and to love it.

And as for me, I'll get my normal haircut, my normal bike, and I'll just be out having fun, smiling in the canyons. I'll hear you coming well before I see you in my rear view. I'll pull over and signal you to pass as soon as it's clear, and hey, just maybe I'll catch up to you at Newcombs or Neptunes and we can chat over a meal, before you head out and rip up the pavement, and I head out and just take it easy. =)

I love this bike. I RESPECT this bike. But this bike needs the right owner, the right rider. If that's you, hit me up, and we'll make something work. =)
