I got some nice notes about the photos from the day I rode to work last week and shared some images of the Henry Hudson Drive.

I also get questions about why I enjoy New York City so much.

I walk about 10-15 miles daily. One of the benefits of the current economic cycle is that the company has asked us to be prudent with mileage.

No brainer for me . . . I started walking everyday. I walk from the Staten Island Ferry to my office and if I have meetings, I walk there. The other day I walked from the Ferry, to Union Square, to 75th, left a meeting circled Central Park (I should post those photos too) back to Union Square and to the Ferry. I see the most fascinating stuff and am finding new and interesting motorcycles and sights every day.

Yesterday I had to drive so I thought I'd share my daily "shot from the window of the truck" file. Funny part is that there is a story behind nearly each of these photos.

Enjoy.

. . . . and that's pretty much what my "Typical" day looks like.

>>>Why you going all corporate on us?

Not corporate, just smart.

The other day I was perusing an automotive magazine and lo and behold there was one of my photos, from Badweb, gracing a story.

I don't think it would happen very often but if someone decides to take one of my photos, use if for profit and not share gosh . . I'd sure at least like to have my options open.

Also, like it or not, I am in the motorcycle business. I have expenses, income and write off stuff like bikes, travel, internet, computers and photo equipment.

If I am not at least TRYING to make my case that I am protecting my interests that could be compromised.

Simple stuff really. I just don't want folks profiting off my stuff. I've never, like when a mag wanted to use one of my photos from Road America, said no to anyone.

Way too many great photos there, Court!

The judge from Texas' rankings:

#1) The generator Shovelhead.

#2) The bobber Beezer.

#3) The lady on the bike with a significant pectoral exposure (hereinafter referred to as the "boober biker").

#4) The Commando with the banged-up alloy tank--I think you've shown us that one before, but it's a cool bike.

How often do you wear out the lenses on your cameras?

You just want me to post pics from my graduation party . . . you naughty old man!

photo deleted: can't let this post go to the backfire board.

This was BEFORE the "how many beer cans can you jam in your cleavage" contest. . . they like to tease me cause I'm old.

I keep running into that Norton in both the East Village and in an alley in DUMBO.

Funny story . . . as I was laying on the ground taking the picture a junkie comes up and asks me "what ya gonna do wit it?" . . told him, "just pictures". He hits me with the "hey bro, how about giving me a dollar". I told him to go himself. I figured I'd have to kick his ass and to my surprise he goes into a puppy dog state and say "c'mon bro . . I'll give you half the heroine". It's a great city.

New camera last Wednesday. . . another on the way and you are right. Nikon called with the repair estimate and the classic D100 now becomes a paperweight.

These are the ones from when I saw it in the East Village. By the way . . . wandered upon a pristine BSA Victor 250 the other day. I'd never seen one and it was awesome.

You'll like these. . .

Vintage bikes are just what folks ride, along with scooters, in Manhattan.

Lovely informal pictures of NYC, the stuff they don't put in travel brochures,
Are some of those bikes parked long term out in the street, my curious mind would like to know.

"Enjoy."
I did : ) Thanks for sharing the pics Court.

PS Since you seem to almost always have a camera with you, how come we haven't seen you in the Riding Game thread?

The only one that seems to be "long term" is the red Triumph in the top photo. It sits in the same place in Chinatown every day.

The gold Triumph is in the same block every day. . the guy rides it.

The East Village, where I try to walk 6 - 10 miles a day, is famous for folks using vintage bikes as cheap transportation. They're just everywhere.

I got to my office a while back and parked next to each other were 2 of my co-workers bikes. One was a Ducati Demo $70,000 whatever and the other was a show quality Royal Enfield.

I have to be careful with Royal Enfield’s. When you see them in the Village, they are real, if I see them on the West Side they are the "look alike" made in Madras, India.

Last week I had a meeting at the power station on 74th Street so I walked from the Staten Island Ferry at Whitehall. When I got done I walked the entire loop around Central Park taking photos of all the musicians. They interest me after I met a guy playing Keith Richards old beat up SJ-200 one day. Central Park is packed on any given day with musicians.

Some, kind of like Washington Square, just hang around Strawberry Fields and play Beatles songs on guitars. The rest of the park is scattered with folks from old time Sax players from Harlem to Julliard students practicing. I met a nice gal from Julliard playing flute the other day.

It's a fascinating town. I may have to do a Central Park story.

It's a fun city . . . matters not if I am doing work in the Situation Room at the United Nations (you may recall the scene from the Harrison Ford movie wheres they were all in the darkened room watching the terrorist camp be raided on infrared screens) or on my wandering through Central Park.

I'm pretty much smack dab in the middle and my work provides me lots of access to secure spots so it's always fun. If you have anything in NYC you'd like to see . . let me know, I probably have photos.

I had a pristine seat that would have fit that 67 FL, but I just swapped it for something the other day. Love that Norton!

I better get Penny to mail you another Pecan pie - all that walking has probably got you uncharacteristically gaunt.

>>>all that walking has probably got you uncharacteristically gaunt.

That's an INACCURATE statement . . . goodies LIKE that Pecan Pie are what have me walking. Funny thing . . but I go in for the physical every year . . . BP great, Cholesterol perfect, everything dandy but I just can't shake the DNA programmed "bulge". Gave up drinking and smoking (not pecan pies) years ago and it's killing me) literally, to have everything perfect, still be able to run 5 miles at 55, and not be able to lose these extra 30#. . . . I'm trying.

Funny thing . . . My son was recently here from LA (surprised me by appearing at my gradation) and I was telling him about Penny. That afternoon we get home and I got an e-mail update from her. What a gal and oh my goodness, what a talent.

She really is an amazing person and on those days when the enthusiasm wanes it's people like her that revive me. I'll never forget the first day I met her. Smart, pretty as a picture and just filled with unbridled, genuine enthusiasm. We still laugh about her blowing off the chance to meet Lorenzo Llamas to meet Erik.

She's long been someone that Erik and I both reflect back on when the "why the heck are we doing this?" question pops up.

She's a special person. Add to that . . the fact that she's famous for making pies and you have all the ingredients of the world's perfect gal!

It continues to amaze me that you aren't 400#.

: )

I'm outta here today for Buell's big day . . . give her my best and you GOTTA see some of the photos I got yesterday. The East Village is beginning to show some amazing new commuter bikes. . . change is in the wind.

All the best to you and Penny.
