JQ,
Really, like most club races, why not run two classes together. Let the FX machines race along with the Supersport ones.

Regardless of the reasons/justifications, it still SUCKS that FX will not run at Laguna Seca but BMW cup and shifter carts will. When facing an array comprising the other three Japanese factories, Honda had an uphill battle. The SS classs is very popular and very closely contested. FX has been and remains the stepchild class of the AMAPR SBK series. Hopefully that will change. A Ducati based team stepping up with a full season 749R effort like they began last year would sure help.

As always, money talks.

Any luck contacting the Daytona Speedway folks?

Oops, I think you are asking that FX machines be waived from tech requirements to allow them to race as Supersport class machines. I doubt that will ever fly. But allowing both classes to race simultaneously but with separate scoring and a two wave start might. That was my thinking. : )

That's what I was suggesting.

Forget the two wave start, just line them up as they qualified and let them race, but score them based on their class.

If anybody is interested in letting them hear you Go to http://www.amaproracing.com/proemail.asp and email Mr. Vanderslice, Director of Competition.

Be courteous, point out that Buell owners will be there in force via BRAG and other clubs, and that they would dearly like to see their favorite Brand be part of the show that weekend. If they can do it for Daytona they can do it for Laguna. Don't forget to tell them your AMA #, so they can put your email in their {redPred} star folder.

The ussuperbike website lets you create your own qualifying sheets combining classes. If you combined the FX and SS qualifying times at Laguna Last year, #13 Mike Ciccotto would have qualified 22nd. The #17 and 98 FX Hondas would have qualified #1 and 2.

However, 70 bikes would have tried to qualify. So if the AMA were to combine classes, they would need to cut off qualifying to 40 or so bikes just for safety's sake. The Buells would safely qualify midpack.

So it could be done

I didn't understand that the AMA was combining classes in the 200, but only allowing the SS class machines to race in the 200 within the FX class, which to be honest, they already could have done as any SS machine will automatically pass FX tech inspection. Am I wrong again? Are they running two classes in the 200? I've never heard of a combined start with two separate classes on the track. That would seriously benefit those with better qualification positions and bikes from the other class between them and their competitors. Naw, if you want intra-class competition during the race, you want to start them in waves.

Either way, I'm sending the email. Thanks for posting that info. thumbsup

On the number of bikes, they could safely run 60 entries. We run that many at little ole OHR in three wave starts including novices and even prov novs.

No. No.

As you said they are allowing the SS spec bikes to race the 200 this year. So a Supersport team could race twice that week, once on Thursday (?) in the 600 race and on Saturday for the 200.

I was just suggesting that the AMA return the favor by allowing the FX bikes to race against the SS bikes at Laguna. The two wave start could be done, I would just rather let them race each other like a regular race, but keep the points separate. It would be fun to watch.

check is in the mail

From yesterday...

BUELL ANNOUNCES 2005 F-USA THUNDERBIKE SUPPORT PROGRAM
$70,500 Contingency Program Offered to Privateer Buell Roadracers

MILWAUKEE -- (Friday, January 28, 2005) Buell Motorcycle Company recently announced its roadracing support program for 2005, with $70,500 in contingency paid to racers aboard Buell motorcycles in the eight-round national Formula USA Thunderbike class. The program offers Buell racers $8,000 per race in contingency paid back to 15th place, in addition to Formula USA’s $2,000 Thunderbike purse paid back to 10th, plus a $6,500 championship bonus for Buell racers paid back to 5th place, supplementing Formula USA’s $5,500 championship bonus.

“We’re proud to once again support the efforts of Buell racers in Formula USA’s National Thunderbike class which continues to draw large grids and features great racing,” said Erik Buell, Chairman and Chief Technical Officer of Buell Motorcycle Company.

The Formula USA Thunderbike class will be a featured event at all eight Formula USA National Road Race Series rounds. The events will be held at Daytona International Speedway, March 4-6; Road America, April 22-24; Summit Point Raceway, May 27-29; New Hampshire International Speedway, June 17-19; Virginia International Raceway, June 24-26; Barber Motorsports Park, August 12-14; the new AutoBahn Country Club Joliet course, September 9-11; and the Daytona finale, October 21-23. Buell’s Henry Duga and the Buell Racing Support Van will be present at each F-USA National event to provide assistance to Buell racers.

Formula USA’s 2004 Thunderbike class champion Bryan Bemisderfer is expected to defend his title against fellow Buell racers Dan Bilansky, Jeff Johnson, Kurt Miller, Randy Rega, Joe Roszynski, Josh Guyer and many others, including riders aboard Suzuki, Ducati, Honda, Yamaha and BMW motorcycles.

Small correction on that Press release, the Summit Point event will be May 28-30, so the final races will be on Monday the 30th, Memorial Day.

This is according to both the CCS and Summit Point schedules on their websites.

Can we create an area under Buell racing like:

2005 Season
race one: Summit Point
race two: Willon Springs

with a discussion for each race of the year?

Have the complete (and keep it current) schedule in the main "2005 Season" folder.

In each of the sub-folders we could have ticket, where the Buell folks will be, demo truck there?, known racers, etc. and at after the race add the results to a running table for the year.

Too much?

Jose'....your thoughts?

That could be done, we kind of do it already just not as neatly organized as you present it.

Buell does press releases after each AMA and FUSA event which are basically the same thing.

Then add field reports/pictures from the people who go to the races.
But yes it can be done

I was just about to decide on how much I wanted to suport this idea when I read the comment about needing a new Badweb logo becasue HD lawyers think its too much like the current Buell logo. This is just unbelievable. here is a group of enthusiats trying to support Buell racers because the factory doesn't give enough for them to fully support their efforts and that same factory is mad because our logo looks like theirs??

I'm sorry, if HD wants to act like that then I cannot support this effort.

Well, we have to defend our Buell interests even against the HD lawyers. So what?
Why should we not make them an offer? We want to get a rather pretty sum of money to keep the Badweb logo, which is indeed somewhat resembling the Buell logo. HD has surely its profits from Badweb: I would have hesitated to buy a Buell without the technical support from Badweb. In fact: I would NOT have bought my M2 without any support from outside the dealer network.

Go ahead and pledge. Harley-Davidson legal will do nothing more than rattle a limp sabre.

As long as unlicensed Buell items are blatantly sold on e-Bay with impunity, I think they have bigger fish to fry.

Thanks to all the positive responders!

Dan,
Whoa o' large indignant one. I've not been contacted by anyone at HDI legal, ever. I am merely being proactive. I guess based upon Court's take, we'll let the logo stand for now and if HDI ever do contact us, we'll take the appropriate action then. I suppose when the logo hits the AMA racing programs, we'll see what transpires.

So are you in or what? If you have something positive to add, please do. The Buell racers in AMA FX sure will appreciate it. Not sure whether HDI trademark hawks will care one way or another. ; )
