There is 2 classifications of modified production. With out a fairing your bike would be listed as 500 M PG. With a fairing it would be 500 MPS PG. The G is for gas if you ran anything other than the gas they sold on sight it would be F for fuel. There are limits to what you can run for a tail on an open bike but I doubt that the stock tail section for a XB R would exceed that. The fly screen on a XBS or a X1 is enough to put you into partial streamlined. Tail sections they are a little more lenient.

Thanks for the info, that's what I gleaned from the rulebook but I figured I'd lean on you guy's experiences.

You can run the stock tail section but you CANNOT run the passenger hump in MP-G.

Unfortunately I see you have learned that stock HD head gaskets are junk when used in a high performance application.

Thanks for the heads up on the tail section. I'm going to look into adapting a Lightning tail and seat for Modified. I'll be using XBRR bodywork and a Firebolt seat for Partial Streamline class.

We bought this bike so had no idea what was inside. It actually turned out to be completely stock internally with a standard bore.

"Bonneville Buell" update…
The crankshaft is at Hoban Brothers and head work is underway.
Looks like cams will be sourced from Red Shift/Zippers and piston from J.E.
I've made the decision to run MP partial streamline gas and fuel instead of MP since it's a naked bike class. Right now I'm studying running E-85 in the fuel class since we have a lot of knowledge on that fuel in this part of the country.

Way cheaper than race gas, good octane, and available. Going to try it on my stroker Busa, already have big fuel pump and injectors in it. You need 30% more fuel to start.

Not much to post yet, work proceeds…
I did finally find a pair of "Bonneville legal" gloves and they were on sale!

I'm heading down to Des Moines in a week or so to visit with a fellow who builds race suits for most of the Midwest flat track guys. All leather, no vents, custom made and he's just down the road so hopefully one of the BIGGEST Bonneville hurdles will be squared away soon.
I just sent my BNI membership in so that's checked off the list.
A question I have for you guys is what tire would you recommend? I kind of figured I should go with a harder compound touring type tire but at the speed we're trying to go, does it matter? BTW the recorde is just under 127mph.
Thanks in advance!!

I had great luck with the shinko tires at those kind of speeds. Good luck going for 126+ as that is a huge task.

I ran a Pirelli Scorpion rear on the 750 until they changed rules for 200MPH tires. Had good luck at Bonneville and El Mirage.Ran 206 at Elmo on it.

Greetings guys,
Parts have been collecting for the 500 single all winter and work on putting it all together is now underway.
I got my Bonneville membership card and I'm waiting until April 1st to reserve my race number.
Thanks for the heads up on tires, I'm considering running a 170 or 160 rear and a 110 front now since cornering isn't an issue.
One major change has been that the bike will be turbocharged now.
Well, I'd better get back to work!!

Progress on the 500cc Bonneville Buell has been slower than expected.
Since I'll be a rookie, I need to get licensed so I've entered my 1125R in the 1350 Production class.
Obviously, we will not be racing for a record but this will allow me to get licensed on a bike I'm very comfortable on and get just focus on one goal this year.
I hope to learn a lot while being part of the event, continue work on the 500 and be better prepared for a 2015 record attempt.
