What's the general consensus for gearing at VIR?

I think on our xb9 its 20/49 or 20/50....depends on your drive on to the front straight...we have a top rpm of 8200...we are low on HP so if you have a 12 you can start there and change if you need to....

Thanks Kevin. My gearing is pretty different. I think I'm running 22/44 at Summit and NJMP. Have you run your XB9 at either of those tracks? I would think I need to drop a few teeth off the rear for VIR. What do you think?

Tony,

You should confirm your primary ratio so you can determine your true final ratio. Your bike has been "upgraded" from a stock 12 and a popular change was an XBRR clutch basket; I believe the ratio with this matched the 9's.

Thanks Jetro. I'll have to poke around it and try to figure out where I'm at.

we,ve not been to any of those tracks...VIR straight is mostly uphill till the flagstand so if it were me, I'd check it first before you change, see where it tops out on the front straight...we try to have a 2.45- 2.50 gear for VIR on the 9, it has 9 primary gearing also, like I said its a stock 2003 XB9 with not much power but if your bike is not stock and has high compression and cams etc, then you can pull alot more gear.if you need anything call me anytime

I'll see how it goes with the gearing I have and bring the chain tool if I need to change.

Thanks guys.

I have no idea what primary or clutch basket is in it. However, you confirmed that I definitely need to change my gearing quite a bit for VIR.

For reference, I was around 7k in fifth at the end of Summit. My note book is in the trailer along with the bike. I may have a 21 on front, but I know it's not a 20.

Thanks Denny.

Not at all. I had the black Buell at Summit a few weeks ago.
