For the record, I don't think I have had so much fun arguing on the internet since 1993 or so. Thanks Buell, and thanks DMG!

Now off to the speed channel website to see when I can watch this SOB ridden in anger...

Only professional AMA Superbike racers/organizations qualify to purchase an 1125RR.

Big talk is cheap. Integrity and honesty are much more meaningful.

Blake,
The Ducati 1098R F09 is not available to the public and is not homologated for AMA competition. It is a homologation special purely for WSB and domestic Superbike racing in countries that still have 'full fat' Superbikes instead of dressed up Superstock spec bikes. The rules in WSB are completely different so you can't use it as an example to bolster the argument in AMA/DMG.

Sure I can. Are not WSB machines also required to start their life as street legal motorcycles? Then the analogy is absolutely dead on. Ducati Corse is doing the exact same thing with their 1198R to 1198R F09 race transformation as Buell Racing is doing with their 1125R to 1125RR racing machine transformation. But for some reason it's okay for Ducati Corse, but not for Buell Racing. Ducati Corse went so far as to race a bike 1098R F08 (really an 1198cc machine) with an engine that had never seen the street. I heard no complaints about that. What's the deal?

Are the lap times of the current AMA Superbikes much different than last year? I can't tell when watching. They appear to be extremely fast to me. No matter how many times you slag on AMA Racing, I'll keep watching it. It's nice seeing two British world class riders competing over here along with all the other highly talented racers from around the world.

By the way, if you think that a street bike cannot be turned into a world class Superbike
Who ever said that? Isn't that what all the Superbikes go through? Did anyone say otherwise?

Blake,
Comparing two series with completely different rules can't prove anything. WSB rules give much wider scope for tuning and changes to motorcycles than the AMA/DMG series rules.

The point is that the AMA rules are only 7 months old yet are already being 'relaxed' by the organisers as and when they please without consultation. The idea of the DMG series was to give the 'uneducated' spectator a clearer view of what was happening (or so I thought) nad encourage more spectators with simple rule structures that are easy to understand. This has already been blown out of the water because nobody now knows what is a 'street motorcycle' and what isn't. The 1125 is now homologated for two completely different classes but how does joe Public know what the difference is?

I'm sure DMG think they know what they are doing, but it doesn't look like from outside. I read a statement from them recently where they somehow thought that WSB would come around to their way of working in the near future! Dream on fellas.

As for lap times, I haven't checked but I would suspect that this years times are closer to last years Superstock times than Superbikes. It would be interesting to compare lap times from Miller with the WSB times though.

Trojan you are spitting hairs now to back up your obviously incorrect assessment of this situation. Joe public doesn't know or care about the homologation of the Buell--only nitpicking, Buell haters such as yourself care.

Joe Public wants to see CLOSE racing with different engine configurations and manufacturers. Plain and simple. DMG is moving in that direction and should be applauded. Buell is bringing a completely different approach to Superbike racing with the 1125RR and should also be applauded.

What is so hard to understand that you have ONE production bike that being used in TWO classes with varying degrees of modification? Joe Public is a little dim, but I am sure he can figure it out.

seemed that all the 1125 superbike guys, and even the 1125 MotoST guys were having trouble with the braking coming off the back straight. Most weren't consistent with thier off throttles and braking points. I don't know if it was being caused by the wierd weather(warm and sunny to cool and wet within minutes) or if they guys were having trouble with their slipper clutch settings, but almost everyone(on buells) were squelching tires. Looked to have plenty of power, and was moving around the track well, but was they were all having issues with that turn 5. That was yesterday, things may have changed today, as the weather is much more consistent(cool and cloudy). The rr did look a bit out of place being flat black surrounded by all the fancy paint jobs, but sounded good.
On a side note that's the first time I've heard the new R1 at full tilt-might have become my new favorite bike sound.

It seems like the haters are really getting nervous now.

Griping about semantics on the haters part.

The only people who give two damns about this whole thing are probably people who hate Buell or Love Buell

A few comments in this thread from different people.

Come on people, just because someone may question or not agree with the rules doesn't make them a Buell hater.

I agree. I seldom agree with Matt but he's always a respectful and intelligent debater. I've never seen any sort of "hate", just simple basic disagreement.

I admire someone who has an opinion and is able to marshall a defense of it without the type of behavior that's become common lately.

would you say he's a master debater?

I think it's all funny as hell because so many take it so seriously. I mean come on. I love my bikes. I race a Buell. But really. Is it that important?

The only thing I can say is I'd like to see anyone else offer a AMA spec Superbike for $40K. Mladin probably has that much in the bodywork and paint.
I said this in the DSB thread, and I'll say it here. The Goliath's are afraid of the lowly East Troy David. It's time to put up, or shut up.
That is all.

Matt,

Re WSBK rules: Do they or do they not require that all competing machines be built from street legal motorcycles that are available for purchase in significant quantity by the general public?

Yes?

Then how are the Ducati Corse entries like the 1098R F08 and the 1198R F09 deemed legal in WSBK?

If Buell Racing were afforded the same extraordinary consideration that Ducati Corse enjoys in WSBK, we'd be talking about a Buell 1125RR whose engine actually displaced 1200 cc's.

From an AMA press conference at Mid Ohio.

"The position is that it's an 1125RR based on the 1125R, that went through the homologation process that our rulebook mandates that all bikes would have to go through, and that it's approved to race this weekend."

Argument over, GO BUELL RACING!!

Having spent a small fortune and many years running Buell race bikes myself when it would have been far cheaper (and less hassle) to race a couple of Suzukis, I don't think I can be called Buell hater. In fact I am passionate about Buell, which is why I simply cannot fathom their innate desire to shoot themselves in the foot so often by pissing people off that they don't need to.

Having rules 'bent' to shape doesn't do anyone any good, and Buell the least of all.

Personally it doesn't matter to me what they race at AMA, because at the end of the day Buell UK is never going to support any race programme this side of the pond so the liklihood of ever even seeing an 1125RR over here is slim at best : )

Enjoy : )

Now what was happening in Gemany today....: )

Of the people who have been making the most noise concerning the legality of the 1125RR; One is Henny Ray Abrams who is a writer for Cycle News. He is also on the payroll of American Honda.
Here is a link to examine:
http://roadracingworld.com/news/article/?article=3 2013
The other loud voice is Dean Adams who runs Superbike Planet; an Internet news site. He has consistently belittled and ridiculed any achievement Buell has made. I have no evidence that he is in the employ of any other manufacturer, but his constant braying is starting to cause even enthusiasts who are not Buell afficionados to question his objectivity.
The 1125RR is legal. Taylor Knapp had a very credible 12th place finish in its debut race.

I'm sure if Suzuki announced that for $40K, any pro licensed racer could purchase the same bike Matt Mladin & Roger Hayden ride, there would be no question of its legality. Oh, wait, they offered a used 2008 model this year the same way, with Mladin miles for $58,000! Qualifying times at Ohio were only 1/2 second off of the pole sitter (which was a Yamaha!), so Buell is on the right track with the Loki/Helicon platform. Buell is doing their best to help out racers, but the racer press is somehow slamming Buell because, well, I don’t know why… probably un-American? You decide…

GO BUELL RACING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
