Ok I am 3/4 done with a bike build to play with. i have rear wheelie bars and the strut as well as a strap. my question is the dot tire of choice. i get road race take offs. so there sides are worn out but the center is 100% fine. i have two different front profiles to choose from one is the standard round we all use the other is a pointed tire with a steep side wall and very narrow center patch. i have two brands at my access. both road race take offs. guess you can say a lightened tire.lol and what pressures are a good starting point on a xb12 light build engine with wheelie bars and launch rpm? mike | ||

Mike, i run a 10.6 second buell and have had good success using the Pirelli super corsa 'green' DOT's. I have tried both bridgestone BT003 and dunlop dots as well, but they don't work as well as the pirelli with its soft side wall. I spent an evening just varying rear tire pressure and found pressures close to road race actually worked the best on my extended swing arm bike (no wheelie bar). 26psi seemed to launch well and deliver max mph on the top end. I run the stock X1 dunlop (D205 i think) on the front at 80psi. | ||

The Mickey Thompson MCR2 fits the bill...(it is rumored that it is a rebadged Shinko) and is proven into the 7 second zone...and it is a treaded DOT legal radial tire... | ||

thanks for the info. i get the brigstones as take offs in a soft tire with the sides gone . the sides are worn out on the road race side. i also get perelli's. the dragons. i see and keep getting feedback to over inflate the front to get it hard. is this correct? i have wheelie bars on order.with strap and rear strut. they will be here this week. i have the parelli on hand. my good question is the brigstone offers a triangular front tire it has a very small contact patch when up right but really wide when leaned over. this should help correct? sorry for so many questions on the track we run a 28/29 psi avg on the rear and 31/32 front for road racing. | ||

Mike, mid-20's is good for the rear. The Shinko is the best tire for the money. I've seen Shinko's with 300 passes on them. Yes, you over inflate the front to reduce it's footprint i.e. lower drag. I'm ready to tune. We'll talk soon. Frank | ||

i'm getting geared up for it. i have my Tappets on the way with anti pump up locks. then i can start installing and assembling everything. thats once the dealer gets the lower triple tree in and a billet race rotor cup I got all my drag gear today whoo hoo. the wheelie bars strut and strap. are in the house. | ||
