Chaz Davies will be testing the Ilmor today with McWilliams, Pitt, and McCoy.

It would appear the Chaz Davies AMA deal is only a handshake, and that if he is offered the Ilmor ride then that is where he will go. Seems that he may have released too much information too soon?

James Ellison was testing the Corona Fireblade at Fontana yesterday apparently. First pictures are here http://www.motorcyclenews.com/nav?page=motorcyclen ews.articles.articleCategory.article&resourceId=60 79423&articleCategory=SPORT_WSB. I hope the bike doesn't turn out to be a lemon like the paint job ;(

Ahh.. You should have seen the Blue, Yellow and Orange paint job they've been running.. At least you could spot the bike a mile away..

That's a lime on the paint job.

Ever drink Corona? The lime hides the bitter edge to it.

Another use for the lime in Corona is to kill the taste of a "skunked beer".

The reason that most breweries use brown or green bottles is to prevent daylight from causing the photochemical reaction that causes skunkiness. You can read all about it here.

If Corona is exposed to daylight the flavor changes. You can prove it to yourself by opening a fresh, sealed box, and putting one bottle in daylight for 30 minutes or so.

Then chill that one and compare the taste to a Corona that was not exposed to daylight except briefly for a trip to the fridge.

I'm more of an ale drinker than a lager drinker but I've never understood what people liked about Corona even when it is not skunked. Negra Modelo is a much better beer and is never skunked.

Seems yet another out of work BSB rider Gary Mason may be joining Ellison in the Corona team, riding a CBR600RR in AMA Supersports.
I worry that you Americans may judge the standard of the top British riders by the ones that make their way to the AMA just because they can't get rides elsewhere. This is not a dig at te AMA by the way, just an observation about the riders concerned. Chaz Davies is an exception and extremely talented, but the others (james Ellison included) are not exactly the cream of the crop I'm afraid : (

Trojan,
I think that you worry a lot more about nationalities than we Yanks do...we don't really care all that much about where the riders were born, as most of them move here for good after they have been here for a while. We are a nation of immigrants, so it isn't that big of a deal.

Actually, I find it amusing how the rest or the world treats international racing like it were an Olympic event...playing the winner's national anthem and raising their home flag. This fervent nationalism seems a bit ridiculous considering (for instance) that you can have a British rider who lives in Spain, riding on a Italian bike, sponsored by a Brazilian oil company. Who gets bragging rights if they win it all? Who cares? Don't worry that we are going to make disparaging remarks about your country if a British rider fails to win the championship...it isn't going to happen.

Jimi,

Never dis the motherland! : )

Besides, we can surely poke fun at our Brit friends with much less of an excuse than their recent lack of success on the world stage of motorcycle racing. But go easy as we do owe them big. After all, they continue to turn out wicked-killer Bond flicks, but most magnanimously they've taken Madona off our hands. : D

I'd take Madonna any day, but not for her music even though she can knock out a good tune.

Is that crash helmets they are carrying or large buckets with their pay cheques in?

How can the WSB Corona Suzuki livery look so good and the AMA Corona Honda colours look so bad?

It seems that Chaz Davies set his very impressive superport test times at Daytona using a completely stock R6 engine in place of the race engine they had planned to use.

I think he will definitely be the most impressive of the Brit expats in the AMA this year.

Chaz will do fine in SuperSport this year. Being able to hang with Hacking while being brand new to four strokes and new to a track says something about your talent.

Matt, what kind of money do you think a fellow like McWilliams commands for a MotoGP ride? Any quesses on what BMW would be paying for testing? And the third WAG would be what did Warr's pony up for him for a weekend here in the states?

I am thinking that he makes a lot less than many peopel assume. I think most of use figure ALL the MotoGP riders are in the million dollar club while I suspect the guys on th esmall teams get more like $100,000 plus some very nice accommodations and transport to the races. Not to mention that the often have to bring a sponser with them to pay a big part of the salary and team expenses.

What is your take on the deal.

I don't know any of the figures I'm afraid, but like you I suspect that Jeremy works for a lot less than many people would imagine. Very few of the MotoGP/WSB guys earn as much as even the top AMA Superbike riders.
As an example, Mat Mladin earned $3 million last year alone, which is around 3 times the amount that WSB champion and GP winner Troy Bayliss earned, and around 10 times what a top BSB rider gets.
As talented as Jeremy McWilliams obviously is, he was never one of the very top GP riders and has spent a few years out of top flight competition since, so he probably isn't in the same wage bracket as the top guys.
I too would be interested to know what he got for racing the Warr's bike though ( and who paid it) ;)

I gotta think John Warr paid that bill. Maybe with cash, maybe not.
