Congratulations to Matt Smith who bagged the Pro Stock Bikes track record with a sub 7-second run down the quarter mile at Indianapolis yesterday in qualifying for the the 52nd annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at O'Reilly Raceway
Park at Indianapolis, the 18th of 23 events in the $50 million NHRA
POWERade Drag Racing Series.

Smith's track record 6.994 at 188.70 mph was the 10th quickest pass in
Pro Stock Motorcycle history and his first in the six-second range. The
Torco Buell V-Twin rider also became the fifth member of the Mickey
Thompson 6-Second Pro Stock Bike Club and put himself in position to
claim his second consecutive low qualifier honor.

"It means a lot to join that club," Smith said. "My dad [Pro Stock racer
Rickie Smith] was a member of the 6-Second Club in Pro Stock and for
both of us to be a part of the history books like that is pretty
amazing."

I cannot imagine going from 0 to 189 in under 7 seconds, on a motorcycle. I know the AHDRA Top Fuel machines are even quicker. I recall seeing one do a 3 second pass at 172 mph in the 1/8th mile at Hallsville a few years back. Each race consisted of a minute of burnouts and staging followed by a short deafening burst of "controlled" nitro explosions, "BRRRRAAAAAAHHHHHHH", and then parachutes and the results display. LOL. Truly an event and performance too extreme to believe if not seen with your own eyes.

Congratulations to Matt smith for winning the meet at Indianapolis!

One year ago, Matt Smith felt the elation of an Indy win for about a day, only to have it stripped away when ESPN2 replays proved that a timing malfunction had occurred and opponent Steve Johnson had actually won the final. Although Smith agreed with the decision and was gracious in the turn of events, the incident has stayed with him.

On this day, any chance of a repeat performance was extinguished at the starting line when Angelle Sampey jumped the green light by .028-second, thereby handing the win to Smith at the starting line. He went on to post a 7.222 to Sampey's 7.147.

"No one's taking this one away," Smith said as he clutched the trophy at the top end. "I saw her red-light come on and I was like, 'Thank you, thank you.' I doubt very seriously I made a very good run because I was screaming my head off in my helmet. I don't even remember going through the gears.

"I've tied dad [Pro Stock driver Rickie Smith] now. He has two NHRA wins and so do I. I told him, 'This one counts, this one counts.' What a deal. We even hurt our motor in Round 1 and it was barely hanging together all day, but it stayed together just long enough for us to get this trophy."

Its really cool to see Buell kicking some major tail at drag racing. I can remember the first AHDRA race I attended back in 1996. There was only 2 Buell's there. One that was racing and the other was owned by some goofy photog that called himself Ferris?

Here is a couple of shots I captured when AHDRA passed through Oregon. Its really cool to be standing there at the start line when one of these TF bikes launch of the line. The nitro is so strong, it burns your eyes.

The S&S "Buell" pro stock engines are miles closer to a Buell engine than the V&H engine is to a V-Rod. Good enough for me. Go S&S/"Buell" drag racers!

I'd be surprised if Erik isn't very appreciative of the NHRA racers who decided to run a "Buell" machine.

They may not own the corners, but they do all right on the short straights. : D

You know I shouldn't post here but it has been a supremely long and arduous week and I thought I would 'pop' in to see what's new.
Well nothing is new. You guys are so clever and yet can't come up with anything better to do than to snipe at one another about every tiny little detail. Sounds like Pee Wee's playhouse..."I know you are, but what am I?"

And this statement "love it when women get their panties all wadded up." Classic and really ironic when you look around these site and see that the women on these boards don't cause and usually don't participate in this trifling B.S.(present company excluded).

I have nothing more to say as my real life calls...

For those of you not paying attention, Tom Bradford was the first Buell to join the "Mickey Thompson 6-second Club" with a 6.981 run at Sonoma, Ca.

OK, I stand corrected. Chip was the first Buell with a 6.997 in round three quals at Englishtown in June. I guess some of you were paying attention!
