My Uly crapped out during a winter blast on a non below freezing day. Had AAA tow it home. after I charged the battery, it ran but the lithium battery doesn't hold a charge. It died while I was moving and if it was a car I'd think charging system because a car will run with no battery. I checked the stator output and its correct and it has an aftermarket rectifier and it seemed to test OK. I put a new Yuasa battery in it and she runs fine. I got one of those voltage meters you plug into the power port and it reads 14.5 volts consistent. I think it was the battery but because it died while driving I wonder if I am wrong about it really being fixed. Any thoughts?

A battery can fail with a shorted cell in which case it will kill the bike even with a functional alternator. I've had that happen in a couple of cars and once on my Uly. The shorted cell in the battery saps all the output from the alternator.

I think you're good to go.

You also need a battery inline to complete the circuit. If the battery shorted a cell, you have an open circuit.

I replaced the HD battery in my Uly yesterday, with another HD battery. The old one was dated 2014. No sense in reinventing the wheel for no reason....

Lithium batteries are just a passing fad. As soon as better technology comes around they will be dropped like a hot potato.
The lithium battery in an electric car was the cause of a giant ocean cargo ship full of 3000 cars sinking recently. They cause fires in airliners pretty often too. Generally, lead acid batteries never do that. Nor do they sink boats.
If the trend toward electric cars doesn't find a better battery technology, the whole electric car thing is doomed.

Having seen how commercial cargo ships are operated, I'd hesitate to say a car started the fire.

But the lithiums are great - recognizing they have limitations like everything does!
