Had to disconnect the oil lines from the oil cooler to replace it after engine rotation. The feed line is now leaking badly at the connection to the oil cooler. This is a 2006 with the plain taper connections and female nut on the line. not the later o'ring type.

any tricks, fixes? thanks for all replies.

I know it sounds stupid, but would plumber's tape work?

Thanks but I think the problem is in the taper joint, not the threads. Besides, i don't know if it could take the heat.

Well, if anyone wants to know, the problem was the pipe was just not lined up to the cooler fitting right. It is hard to do because the line is stiff. The solution: disconnect the oil feed line from the output on the crank case, connect the line to the oil cooler first. Tighten the nut gradually and move the line around a bit to make sure it seats properly, loosen the nut a little check again for proper alignment before tightening down. Then reconnect to the engine. I'm told that's how they did it at the factory.
