Need help, My bike wants to stall when at low RPM <2000, it happens in every gear when the RPMs rev down, I have had it into the shop and the mechanic cant find what is wrong. He has tried the TPS reset, the O2 sensor and the throttle position sensor but none fix the issue. When a TPS reset is done the bike runs good for about 5 miles before starting to act up which is why he thought it was a sensor. He said his computer isn't flagging anything wrong and a visual of the ECM (which I relocated) looks ok with no obvious cracks or damage.

At least he held off form repairing the leaking forks and other minor issues with the bike and racking up a >$700 bill

I hate to say it but as the bike is 13yrs old and getting parts and repairs is becoming an issue this may be the thing which pushes it out the door.

Did you set AFV to 100 after replacing TPS and O2 sensor? Check spark plugs. Check fuel pressure. Clean and tighten grounds and battery terminals. Make sure rectifier works properly.

And parts aren't all that hard to find...

Wow, that was a blast from the past! And yes, I still use the pipe joint compound with ptfe for certain thread applications on the bike.I use it on the belly pan bolts and a tiny bit on the base of the of the oil pan drain bolt. Most situations call for blue lock tite but I feel the plumbers friend works well on bolts that don't require much torque and are removed and refitted often.

could it be the butterfly shaft through the throttle body is broken but not completely broken in two? only a guess. IAC looks to be the better candidate

I got a download form the mechanic today when I picked up the bike. He said the his computer isn't flagging anything but he noticed that after a reset the fuel mixture quickly goes from 100% to 135% (max setting I think) over a few minutes/miles, after that the bike runs rough and wants to stall at low RPM but I also notice and >4000 RPM the bike starts bucking as well. His thinking is the injector is the problem, he remembers there being issues on the 2008 and having to replace the module on multiple '08s when he worked at HD. As this is an $800 fix I wanted to inputs from this forum to see if with the new info on the fuel mixer % if this makes sense or if there are other things to try.

^ When you say “module”, you mean ECM? You can get an improved version tuned for any exhaust there is for $300 from IDS: http://idspd.com/xcart/products-buell/xb12

It’s plug and play.

@Hughlysses - He thinks it is a mechanical issue with the injector module, not an ECM problem. I asked about reprogramming the ECM but he felt that the bike running OK after a reset and only acting up after running for a while points to the injector "reading" being bad and the ECM trying to compensate. (I am paraphrasing the last part, so I might not have caught all the details right)

"Injector module"? What the heck is that?

You mean injectors? Cheap to buy and even cheaper to clean. Keep in mind they are front and rear specific. Like you said "13 years old..." a little maintenance is due.

An AFV that climbs that fast is a sign of a weak or failing fuel pump. Do NOT get that chinese one for cheap, it's terrible and the fuel pressure regulator is wrong. OE.

i have a pair of almost new injectors. pm or email me. i was chasing a similar problem. ended up enriching both fuel maps 2%. problem persisted after injector replacement so i believe them to be good.
