Wonder what should do if i get in a place (like Russia..) where i only get low octane fuel? With buelltooth i have access to ecm, but what do i chance? It would ne nice to have a map for poor fuel which i could download to bike instantly. Some bikes have this "poor fuel mode" built in.

Thats an odd concern.

That said, stock Buells have pretty low compression (relatively) and not very aggressive timing curve either. They will eat damn near any fuel without complaint.

Remember that low octane gas actually burns faster than high octane gas. If you and Ewan McGregor get to the road of bones and have a knocking issue, I'd pull some timing out of it.

Thanks. I forget to mention, i have hi comp pistons. Maybe only way is to get spare ecm and remap it with dyno using poor fuel... but it costs

Since your's is an 06 you can mechanically remove timing. Remove the two rivets holding the timing cover and remove the internal cover. You will be able to "back off" the timing from there. Scribe a line at the stock location so you can go back to it. Tap out the rivet holes for two small screws so you won't need to drill out any rivets next time.

How far back can you get before injection timing gets bad?
I had a H-D mechanic set my X1 by ear to reduce the pinging. result was 32 miles per gallon and sportster-level power.

Funny thing, my X1 got really pretty reliable when it wasn't being maintained by professionals : )

I have a fuel map for 87 octane on my Aprilia. Mostly because I live in the stix and they just don't sell premium around here..
