I guess I'm going to be the test subject here. Bike wouldn't crank past the first compression stroke this morning, original battery, knew this would happen at some time. I really didn't want something of questionable age from a local auto store and the dealers are too far away for a quick run and pickup. Well, I decided to give Batteries Plus a try. The battery is branded Duracell, 220 CCA and has a two year warranty. The posts are also drilled for both top and side connections and the battery I got was date stamped August 2015. They come fully charged and the store rotates them on a maintenance charger while in the store. Price plus tax (CT 6.something%) was $118 and change.

Two thoughts so far. First, if you use the side connection you have to use the included spacer between the terminal and the post. When I did this, I couldn't get the seat back on. The good news is that there is enough cable and room to connect to the top of the posts which leaves more seat room. Secondly, the engine cranked over real strong, although it was a little warmer tonight than it was in the morning. May take a week or so to be sure, early morning forecasts for the rest of the week are for mid forties. That's okay, I hate cold weather, especially so soon.

My experience with batteries from batteries plus is that they do not hold up to the vibration for any length of time. I have personally tried 2 and have had several friends with harleys with failures as well. I steer clear of anything marked batteries plus now. Since yours says duracell on it maybe it is better i don't know for sure.

I replaced the battery in my 09 XT with a Batteries Plus battery. Price was in the $120 range, don't remember the exact price. Got about 18 months out of it before it had to be replaced again. This time I got one from a HD dealer. It's 2 years old now and so far no issues.

I hate giving HD a nickel but need the bike to run when I need to go somewhere.

I recently purchased a Duracell branded battery from Batteries and Bulbs. The guy working there said they are made by Decca. I believe Decca makes the HD battery. I took a chance because it has a two year total replacement warranty, not pro-rated but total replace. I hope I get 23 months out of it (or 48 months).

Yeah, that's' the story they gave me even though the box says "delivered by Ascent Battery Supply", whatever that means. The 23 month life was exactly my thought too.

On another note, I guess I've needed a battery for a long time now. All this year the bike has hesitated on the first compression stroke with the clock/odo resetting more often than not. That problem has disappeared. Also, the cold idle is more steady and hasn't stalled on me like it's been doing lately and it just seems to run better in general. All this time I was under the impression that, weak battery or not, running wouldn't be affected much unless you got into a low voltage situation. Guess I was wrong?
