Hello, I am trying to reach a decision on which adjustable windshield system to purchase, for my 06 Uly. I do not wish to start a flame war. Just looking for actual owner inputs as to pro or con. As to ease of installation, adjustablity, type windscreen used, wind noise, and rider height. As I am 5'11" and already using a Corbin seat, so my feet can touch the ground. XB12XP. Madstadt brackets w/0g tinted windscreen. 6'1" tall. 200lbs. Corbin seat. Madstadt brackets came w/2x backing plates. Piece of cake to install. I utilize mine all the way up & all the way forward. (I also have the Memphis Shades lowers fitted) I can't comment on the Palmer brackets as I have never tried them. The Madstadts work well for me. Low wind blast & with the lowers no feeling that my helmet is about to vanish upwards off my head. I found the sweet spot for me & haven't adjusted the brackets since. Wind noise is negligible. (I wear a Shoei Multitec helmet) YMMV. Chris C | ||

I have the palmer brackets with tall screen and Laminar lip. also adjusted fully up and forward...I'm 5'10"...ZERO buffeting...in fact i can light a smoke going down the road no problem. I was on the fence about which system to get also ...I went with the Palmer brackets for cost...Happy with them? you betcha. | ||

i should also mention i went with the tool-less adjusting system and the support bars...I think all together with shipping to the states i paid $168 | ||

I use the Palmer Products bracket. It seemed sturdier and I like the fact that there are only 3 height adjustments and 3 angle adjustments. Also bought the tooless adjustment knobs and the support brackets, and the Madstad ADV shield. I wouldn't change a thing. I was getting a lot of air coming up from the front of the tank area, so I mounted some wind deflectors on the forks, and now I have a nice calm air pocket with no low pressure suction and no head buffeting. | ||

+1 on Palmer I have the Palmer brackets and bracing, they work very well, the folks there are very helpful if you have questions . Those with no buffeting do you have pictures of your set-up? Not sure if I need a slightly larger windscreen, I have the factory 08XT Uly screen and experience some buffeting | ||

+1 on the Madstadt The painted (flat black) stainless Madstadt brackets in my opinion looked stronger, with a larger adjustability range than the Palmer brackets. They came with the convenient knobs for tool-less roadside adjustability. Also had the Madstadt folks make me a special touring windscreen (24" tall--not one of their regular catalog sizes--I'm ~6'7" with shoes on) and they didn't gouge me on the price. Brackets and shield, along with a replacement fly screen (plastic piece that the OEM clear plastic windscreen attaches to) for a stronger base to attach the brackets to, delivered to my house was $300. The Madstadt folks are located in Florida and are very responsive and great to work with. One last thing...the flat black Madstadt brackets just look better than the unpainted stainless Palmers. They look more "OEM" than the raw stainless Palmer brackets. When ordering a windscreen, get the first level of tint at minimum. The tint hides the shiny edges of the plastic well. I wasn't originally going to order any tint whatsoever, but the Madstadt folks talked me into it, and I'm VERY glad I did. | ||

I have the Palmer brackets on my 08 XT and I believe they are one of the best accessories I have installed so far. I did not get the tool-less adjusters but carry the tools with the bike. Now that I have it set up the way I like it, I will probably never adjust it again.  I also installed the Memphis Shades Lowers a few weeks ago but have not ridden enough yet to tell if they reduce buffeting or not.  | ||

I have a Palmer setup, and while it does its job, which for me is to extend the rideable season a few weeks in both ends, I'm not entirely content with it, and I need to tweak it further. For slow, cold-weather riding it does its job, and I have no complaints. At higher speeds, it buffets my hear around enough to make me lose focus within half and hour or so, and that's simply dangerous. I haven't managed to completely eliminate a high speed headshake either, which makes riding with faster bikes draining. And of course, In my opinion, however practical it might be, this kind of setup takes away most of the soul from the Uly. I recently took away the windscreen for the summer, and suddenly the bike turned back into the hooligan monster I bought years ago. For reference my setup is as follows: Palmer Brackets Zero Gravity high windscreen Laminar lip The windscreen seems to affect my ride the least when it's in its lowest position, pointing as vertical as possible. I'm 186 cm tall, which would translate to somewhere around 6"1 if Google isn't mistaken. Some of the turbulence and headshake can be blamed on the windscreen flexing. A tweak I'm going to try, is to switch to the low screen with no laminar lip. I could, of course, try to stabilize the upper part of the tall screen, but I haven't found any solution I like the looks of. | ||

Hello Airdale, Wish I could give you the comparison you are looking for but I can only comment on the Palmer brackets and other options. 09 XP here with Palmer system with all optional thingies and their tall shield. Either way you go, I think you would regret not purchasing the tool-less adjustment option. My bike came with no windshield attached so I have no idea what the stock setup is like. I had the Palmer system alone for a few thousand miles and it was a huge improvement over nothing but as others have mentioned, the Memphis shades lowers are great also and they work very well together. With the windshield alone, there is a tremendous amount of air blowing in over the airbox and hitting you in the stomach and chest. The frame acts like an airfoil. Even with what I have, I am still getting a good bit of turbulence at face level at 70 MPH and above. 65 and below is a pleasant ride and I usually ride with my shield up. 6 foot tall, Corbin seat, 2 inch bar risers. Think I may add the Laminar Lip next. | ||

I only have about 300mi on my 'new to me' 09XT. I bought the used Palmer brackets from a rider here on the forum. Night & day difference, although I'm still playing around with adjustments for that sweet spot. It's likely I'll remove 'em and paint 'em black this winter. I don't have the quick change knobs but it's not a big deal to change the position and IMHO has a cleaner look with the smaller hardware. Originally I was looking at adding the Laminar Lip - but went with the brackets instead. No regrets. 5'10" and shrinking-according to pretty wife anyway. | ||

Can you run the stock low shield on the Palmer brackets? I notice it says tall only... thanks in advance |
