So I have now relocated to the east coast and am wondering what I can do to avoid the corrosion issues that come with living by the ocean and the DOT using salt on the roads. Has anyone ever used a corrosion inhibiter like crown rust proofing or rust check or something like that or does anyone have any suggestions besides washing after every ride. I know the muffler rusts anyway but am more worried bout the other bits and pieces

I live in Mass now. And its hard to fight corrosion. I rinse my bike with S200. Been keeping corrosion down. A good powder coat job on the Exhaust can helps too.

Washing with cold water is best and even the odd bucket of water is better than nothing. The key is to not let the salt dry on the bike, if possible, as it seems harder to get off later on.

ACF-50 works real well. The bike is well built and the fastners well coated but they will go, as any other, sooner or later.

Long term SS ones are best. Otherwise use a brush and "dab" all the fastners with ACF-50 or some other type. Wipe the forks with a rag with soaked in this as salt kills exposed alloys. Do the wheels as well.

"corrosion issues that come with living by the ocean". It may sound odd but a BIG one is the wind. The air off the Sea has salt in it and the wind will drive it into every part, including the electrics, of the bike. This will kill the bike in a VERY short time. A spray of Di-Electric oil on all of the joints will help a lot for the future. Once parked try and keep the bike out of the wind with a cover or in a garage.
