Hey yall... I'm about four weeks and 8,000 miles in to my trip. So far, 43 parks in 20 states. Lots of photos. Read all about it.

The spot is a way for me to trace my route, and let family & friends keep track of me. It allows me to hit a button and send a check in message out that lets everyone know that I'm not dead. Also, it has "need help" and "SOS" functions. I figure, if they know my GPS coordinates, they know where to send the cops, EMS, tow truck, or whatever.

Thanks Ghostrider for sharing that. Good read, for sure.

I just finished the Melissa Holbrook Pierson book "The Man Who Would Stop at Nothing" and your post now means more to me having been able to gain a little context from her writing (including the Spot Tracker).

Man.... I envy your freedom to go on this trip. I WILL do something like this one day. Thank you for sharing in such detail. Really. Plan on getting my wife to read this thread hoping that it will push her over the edge to do this with me. Ride safe brother! If you are ever coming through middle Tennessee look me up. I have a extra bedroom and and can hook you up with hotmeals until your ready to head out again.
