Well the other night I saw a 20% off e-mail from http://www.ceebaileys.com/buell/ulyssesws2.html Cee Baileys (have their replacement plastic on my FXD). I decided to bite and order the windshield I had always wanted.

I received it within the promised time, even earlier then expected. Professionally packaged, no instructions (not really needed) and new hardware (bolts and rubber washers) for front screen replacement.

If you are unfamiliar the screen replaces the stock fly screen that covers the horn and gauge cluster and has a full size windshield attached to it.

The looks I think are great for what it is. It's a big ass windshield but the molding looks 100% awesome in my opinion, the lines are great and give it a sporty feel. I was really excited once I tightened down the last screw.

Then I hopped on the bike. I'm 5'11" barefoot with a 32" inseam and have the stock '06 seat. Mounting the bike I usually lean forward and leg kick around the back (when trunk is uninstalled which it is). While I was mounting the bike the first time I almost smashed my head into the top of the screen (shield was open on my full face).

Not an issue after you do it once I'm sure : ).

I then rode through the neighborhood, the screen shakes a lot when the bike shakes but that is to be expected. The screen looks and feels and functions amazing at low speed. At this point I am 100% satisfied and happy with my purchase.

For reference I have had a Zero Gravity extended black windshield on my bike almost since new. Which I like but extended highway riding and winter riding I wanted a little bit more wind protection.

I then got the bike out on the 4 lane median road my sub-division is off of. I hammered it and got up to 70 real quick on a brisk windy day and I thought I was going to crash. Horribly loud noises from the wind buffeting off my helmet added to the noise of my shield opening and closing rapidly. I slowed down and thought... no!

I slowly accelerated and dammit, this thing is noisy and uncomfortable at speed!

When I turned around to go with the wind it was considerably better but still not as good as my regular set-up.

Along with that not having the pressure on my chest was definitely different, not good or bad at this point but different... I felt more like I was falling forward or being sucked towards the dash more then I have ever felt that before. It almost felt as if I had to hold myself up much more, my upper body weight having to be supported by my hands was different but I don't have enough miles to say good or bad because I did notice 100% less pressure on the chest and better wind protection.

I'm thinking this set-up might be good for hot summer with ear-plugs in, when the air is thinner. Still not sure. Pretty unhappy with the ride-ability of the screen over all, it's a nice product but it doesn't function sadly.

Of course, no return on dark tinted screens.

Wow, that is a big screen. It's the best looking big screen i've seen. Thanks for the write up. I always wondered how much buffeting you would get with that big screen.

Man, that is huge. I believe that is another item that looks good on paper but does not work well in the real world. Makes you wonder if the designers ever actually bolted one on a Uly and took it for a ride, doesn't it?

For what it's worth, I bought the Palmer Brackets and am using my stock tall XT shield. It's not perfect but much better than the stock setup. Thanks for the pics!

I had Cee Bee. Great quality but did not help much and it makes a less than pretty bike look mega ugly. The Uly is a naked bike treat it as such.

I like the ZG set-up enough to go back to that as opposed to chopping it up and making something.

I'd be interested to see the "modification" baileys is recommending in Retired_Cops post.

I think I would cut a pressure vent in the shield just above the instrument panel. I also think I would cut it down maybe 2 inches and add a piece of rubber strip molding around upper edge of the shield.

These mods were suggested on my KLR forum for running these types of shields. It has transformed most of them into a workable shield.

I'm with Motorbike, Palmer Brackets and the tall XT shield are the best money I ever spent.

With the larger shields a lower fork mounted type shield can make them work to stop the buffeting.

With the slope of the leading edge of the fuel tank, adding a large windshield is asking the air to suck up behind it.

Try some lower air deflectors. You might be surprised.

I have the palmer brackets and just got the 20" madstad screen. Its WAY bigger than the zero gravity screen I replaced. After trying all different positions with the palmer brackets I have ended up setting the screen at the lowest setting. It works very well for me.

I probably could have gone for the 18" but So far I am very happy with this set up. The only disadvantage is not being able to lower the screen for off road.
