Has AnyOne used the German "Kevlar reinforced Carbon Fiber" "Frame Shields"???
I Think they made them for the 12X.
I ride the most Wonderfull little rollie Chipseal "Cottage lake" roads up north of Lake Superior, Roller Coaster, GRIP!!!
but it is all the exact. same. color. when LoosSe!
MuleUly Loves it. But I look at that frame... And Know either tossing it into the Pines, or just low siding on gravel is pretty much inevitable.
Thinking about buying a "scratched" Frame... finding a Fine. Welder. Stretch that neck out enough for a 19" Wheel... Or a Full On 21" Baja Ready.
My home turf, past.
Been dancin around Flat trackin on dirt with the Uly... it kinda Likes it!
Armor. Needed!
Of Course, After My first ride on the Uly, I looked up Ice Spikes!
if ya haven't seen Buell on ice, do.
LOVE My Uly, Lusted after the XB Design as Soon as I saw 1st Designs, Damn Happy to be able to Afford it! Literally had to die to do it.
But... I am a "equipment operator", Was damn fine one, Lived to make Equipment DANCE. Made my living Driving Sideway's in Semi's spreading Cooked Sugar Beet pulp, mixed w/45% Molasses on Old Airport runways in the Lower Colorado Desert, then on a 160 acre Skid pad next to the plant as We developed the Solar Dry System.
9 years, I played all night long… Grew up with Desert Racing, D-38. Was There for the Very 1st, and most the continuing development of
Dune Buggy's, Baja Racing, Born in Brawley, California, below Sea level, with Glamis for a front yard, Anza-Borrego in back.
died in wool Adrenalin Addict, but a survivor.
Operating a fine design, dancing on edge, in a BeAUTiful Place,is Life in the NOW .
Where my Church is
I ride for jOy, as life can pretty much suck sometimes, so grab it when you can. Will go out with a grin on My Face.
Uly WANT's to PLAY! Damn fine design, KNOW it is an UNDER Valued Bike, Nab all ya can CHeAP! Please, spent My wad.
It IS a Classic, and No More Will be built.
Save a Straight, Scratched Frame for me, I'll BUILD a ""Play"" Uly Roller to Swap My motor in & Out of.
dead serious, a Uly with 19" hoops & DT rubber Would Be a BALL!!!
Just in from playin on Clay&rock forest road over hill&dale, while lite sprinkle, have a Clay stripe up my Face... And a Big Ass Grin!
but "I" like cheep sleep in an "AdVenture" bike...
Tires Dammit!!! Using New Scorpion Trails, Hook up Pretty Damn Good actually, not much for soft stuff, but iThey handle gravel stripes over rock&clay, surprisingly well, likely going to EAT the Tires, but thats Why I bought the pirelli's
Screw cheap rubber, Thats MY Ass!
Want to try the Distanzas, mounted on the 07 rear, need another Uly Front, too many rocks up here Not too.
But the Uly, she sWeeT in the Right Spot, I'm Wheely-ing out of clay corners now & then, just rootin around, no strain, little skatey in the gravel... but I've been practicing this shit for a long time.
The Bike is a Wonderfull Handling package, & "HarleyD" DO know How to HooK uP on Clay track.
=8^D

bringing it back…
"I" like cheep sleep in an "AdVenture" bike...
Had a rider not quite understand, cause in His backcountry, dirt roads are Treacherous, decomposed granite, Bad Skatey W/out Knobs…. I grew up there.
he said.
"It's pretty much a street bike, I have no intention of putting it down to sleep. I have dirt bikes and dual sports for doing that kind of stuff. The Uly stays upright. But I still keep the scorp syncs on it, it goes down plenty of gravel/rough roads.
"
I replied:
Road is What I am Riding on, NorthWest OnTario, Canada.
Frost Heave. Pavement Crumbles.
So they Have Beautiful "Dirt" HighWays. Lovin it!
NOT decomposed Granite San Diego Style, Crushed Rock Roads, Very Well maintained, Great Drainage, Think Finland Rally Racin!
But Yes, "Sleep" happens. So do Moose.
and deer, and bears. Already Bagged My limit on the Moose@90kph . (Not on a bike, but that IS a Hazard to seriously discuss if riding their territory. It Happens.)
The Uly is the Most Competent "Street" bike I've ever ridden, at reasonable sane speeds, just flow with that motor, grunt out of the corners, then roll off, slow down, then Repeat, PermaGrin. it's truly a classic no Bullshit piece of Balanced Design Art, and I Collect My kinda Art.
I'm hopin to give it to my Grandson, if I can protect the frame from all the Rocks they build Roads from Up in the North of Ya'll. Hang On to yer Uly's, their Art.

For the SoCal Boy's, Think West Palomar rd, with clay over well drained crushed rock, like a Saturday nite Sprint Car race traction...

some say…
"Air cooled engines are outdated"
Why? Air cooled V-twin Worked Fine for both my Grandfathers. one 1917 Indian, other a JD Harley
What is your purpose?
Ride = Grin, Simple.
What puts a Grin on Your face?
Air Cooled = Butt Simple, less parts, less breakage, less Weight!
What RaceTrack do you ride, if "Power"=top end?
it WAS an "Adventure" bike design, though the 17" front takes it out of Soft stuff fun. But For Most "Improved" roads, it Excels, Making easy miles, a Plays like a SuperMoto with a Cat Diesel in it. Only place I'd add Power Would be on the Bottom, Magnuson supercharger would be Just Right, if it fit into the package, without affecting ergos, which are Perfect for Me.
Grunt Out of Corners is What Buell was Selling.
Nimble. Harley.
friggin Miracle!
I would change Very Little, in refinement of simplicity, strength & lightness. Handyness in Waking from Sleep...
Bigger Diameter Wheels, smooth the potholes, and get more Gyroscopic effect when counter steering, ever slide with a 23" front??? SpeedWay Baby! There is a reason.
Imaging the GRIP, with a ZTL brake that diameter!!! Leverage. Think that is where rubber may go, for an ALL-Road Adventure Bike, larger Wheels smooth the potholes.
But as it is, for My roads, I'm Real Happy with My Uly, As is, though with the XB9 primary, a 6th gear would be Jus' Perfect.
