Does anyone have any special instructions for installing the 3 bearings and 2 seals in the new 2010 wheel? I want to make sure this is done properly so I don't create my own problems.

Will my new wheel come with bearing installation instructions?

Buy the wheel from American Sport Bike and have Al install the bearings. I paid additional $20 for the service, at the time, money well spent.
And, you can be sure they are installed correctly.

I was going to be asking this question soon as mine showed up without any instructions.

Thanks Froggy!

Even if you didn't buy the wheel from Al, I imagine he'd be willing to advise you on how best to do it. He's done a lot of these in the last couple of years.

I'm sure all the precautions he mentions in the old wheel bearing thread (http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=142838&post=1505281#POST1505281) would also apply to the 2010 wheel (i.e.- DON'T drive the bearings into place with a socket on the outer race, etc.).

I just got off the phone with my dealer's parts department. He said all the parts necessary to convert to the 2010 wheel setup have been ordered for me but the 3 bearings themselves are back ordered. This is never good.

We all know these bearings are more than likely a standard bearing that can be purchased at any bearing supply company. Can anyone please give me the standard bearing number for the bearings on the 2010 wheel setup?

If I have that, I will go to a local supplier and pick up my bearings there, everything else will come from H-D. Thank you to all of you for your help!

I think they've been posted here somewhere, but I can't find them. If nobody else can come up with it, American Sport Bike has apparently got them in stock:

The 2010 Uly metallic mag wheel is the only one that is sold WITH the axle and bearing kit. With all the other colors, you buy the wheel, and buy the bearing/axle/seal kit separately. They're more expensive than the Uly wheel.

But you don't buy all the individual parts, you buy the wheel and the bearing/axle/seal kit. Why do they have everything but the bearings? Doesn't make sense to me.

We have the bearings only in stock.

Al

OK, so enlighten me. Is the 2010 kit the same kit sold by Erik Buell Racing? They have the kit for around $90 which includes the bearings, I assume this fits the older '06-'09 bikes, am I right?

I'd guess it's just the axle, bearings, and seals for the 2010 wheel. You can't install the newer bearings in the older wheel. They won't fit, and there's not enough "meat" in the wheel to machine it so they would fit.

Yes it does as long as you have a 2010 wheel. $80 and I am not sure if that is a good deal or not but they may have it in stock if you need it.

I was just about to call Al Lighton at American Sport Bike to order the 3 bearings when I received a call from my dealer. The parts man said he had just spoken to H-D and they said my 2010 wheel, bearings and all necessary parts are now on their way. They should be there on Tuesday.

I shamefully called Al anyway and asked if he could give me some pointers on installing the bearings and seals, even though I had already ordered the parts from H-D. He was very kind and courteous and told me exactly what I needed to do. This man knows these Buells inside and out and I will again highly recommend his business to all of you. Thank you very much Al for your time!

Wow - that's all I have to say....

(or not)

What an amazing weekend! The races, the people, the weather, the venue... We were so lucky to enjoy this time together with some VERY SPECIAL folks (!). Just now getting a moment to reflect on the weekend.

Guess I'll start by thanking Erik Buell for taking time out from his VERY hectic schedule to join us for a surprise visit on the hill. I'm constantly impressed with how genuine he is, from the first time I met him (on the Cali ride, long before Al and I became American Sport Bike), to this time. The man is doing a bazillion things, orchestrating a company up from ground zero to producing a top 10 finishing bike in less than two years- that is insane! He must have one of those secret time-machines that give him 8 more hours every day. I want one of those...

Geoff and crew - Thank you for a GREAT finish as you continue to collect data on the 1190! Considering the amount of seat time you've had on it vs. the years of tweaking on the track that most of the racers have had on their bikes, it really is A-MAY-ZING. May each lap of each race bring you closer to being one with it!

Jerry - thanks for sharing the Luv Shak again and doing ALL that you do to make this SUCH a fantastic weekend for everyone. Pretty sure that my hammock hanging over the hill below the Luv Shak was the absolute sweetest spot to watch the races from, thanks to you!

Kathleen - thanks again for your awesome Hawaiian hospitality - you spoiled us all!

Eric - Happy Birthday!!! This certainly wasn't your usual track experience in SO MANY ways, but they're your stories to share if you want to. We love you and hope you and Cheryl have a great week together.

Cheryl - you did it, girl! A solo drive, and LITERALLY never stopped for 8 hours... Thanks for all of your help up at the track keeping everyone well fed. The AMAZING CUPCAKES were exactly that - yummm...

Tom and Glen (and others?) - thanks for keeping Al safe on the ride up (sounded like an excellent ride, as always) and your help in keeping the libations cold and flowing.

Laurie (and Zach!) - thanks for your company driving the Light Shak up (4:00 am came way too soon, eh?) and all your help throughout the weekend. Hope you and Tom have a very special ride this week (btw, the kitties are doing great).

Slaughter and Sunny - enjoyed seeing you guys, and hope you finish that flooring soon. Don't let it take over your lives!!

Hey Al, I never get to thank you in public - As always, you always find a way to make things work out. But when you ushered us in at the entrance, I couldn't have loved you more...

Totally enjoyed meeting some new folk and seeing old friends at the Luv Shak, Light Shak and E Shak corral... Erik, Shawn and Mariane, Jeff, Jim (both varieties), Nai, Tom, Curt, Chuck and Ann, Austin and Van, and EVERYONE that I met - thank you each for contributing to a GREAT weekend. The smiles and good vibes were in abundance all weekend long. If anyone was hungry or thirsty, or didn't have a good time, well it's your own damn fault!

The success of the weekend can be measured in so many ways... by the race position, what was learned by the participants, the things that were accomplished, the ride, the weather, the smiles on the faces of the folks around you... In each of these areas, this weekend truly ROCKED.

Wow - and that's all I have to say...

(at least for now)
