I'm a little frustrated. My 07 just doesn't seem right or very consistent. I say "seem" as I don't have a good background or experience to make my judgment. A couple things jump out at me - it surges at low rpm as I've heard others mention, and that "seems" worse lately. The idle wants to stay at about 2000-2200 when I stop, rather than dropping back to normal idle. I can release the clutch a little and slow it down, but that just cures the symptom. My fuel mileage has dropped off by 3-4 mpg this season. It still accelerates well and has plenty of power. It seems to have a new vibration, too. It smells different lately. I did the breather re-route recently, so I could be convinced that could be related, but I'm not confident. It has seemed different this spring since I got it out for the season. I'm getting ready to head out on a long trip in a few weeks and I'd like to feel confident that all is well. I took it to the dealer to get a check up (I did NOT ask them to do a TPS re-set; I wanted an unbiased assessment). They said they thought all was fine. The idle has seemed worse since then. And if it is relevant, I had to rotate the engine and replace my rear rocker box gasket recently, I could see me having done "something" to it. And it just has never seems consistent - it regularly seems to sound or feel a little different. Not sure if or how normal that might be. The way the big v-twin vibrates, I can see that being kinda normal.

Many of those symptoms match what I read folks attributing to needing a TPS re-set. I'd like to try, but don't have ECMspy. I'm wondering if anyone in southern WI has it and would be willing to walk through it with me over the next couple weeks. I can certainly get the dealer to do it, but I'd rather have the educational experience.

I agree with the needing a TPS reset. In the mean time, you can lower the idle a tad, it should prevent the hanging you are experiencing.

How many miles on plugs? How many miles on motor? How did you seal airbox where breathers came thru? A few of the OCD ramblings in my head at night. I have an 07x as well and the best thing i have ever done is the breather reroute. here on gulf coast i can't help you although i have ecmspy. To seal the airbox, I put the base plate on a drill press, took a flycutter to flatten the angle out, then with gaskets and 1/2" bolts, washers, tighten up and put cotter keys in bolts below nuts to lock them in. yes, OCD does come to mind. I always warm up for 2minutes min. with no throttle input. have fouled plugs before by not following procedure. Aeros hockey in calder cup tonight so attention is very scattered. Let me know how things are going cuz i am so interested in all things buell.

I forgot to ask in a scoring frenzy ( go houston Aeros) Describe how much spooge production happens from the breather reroute in wisconsin! Here on the gulf coast I have to clean every 6 months to get the crap out of the 3/8 lines on my road king and 12x. humidity is unreal here. also check your breathers to see if they are open or gunked up. take care and hope to hear from you and your trip! Froggy, yeah, I'll do that. It's seems like it could be just a tad high at idle anyway.

Sagehawk - you got me thinking and wondering about the breather reroute. Seal the airbox? Never heard of such a thing. I followed, or think I did, a procedure I read here and didn't see any mention of that specifically. Plugs are new, I replaced them when I did the rocker box gasket. The old ones looked fine, although one was gapped a little large. The engine has 16K+ miles. Last evening, after reading Oddjob's post and the responses, I tightened the cable to the actuator in the airbox. One quick ride following that felt pretty good, but it probably wasn't a good thorough test. I guess I'll just have to go for a ride today. And not a lot of spooge in the airbox prior to reroute, regular thin film.

Before I moved to WI I lived your world for 4 years except on the other side of Galveston Bay. I lived in Anahuac. Any fans of the Austin Lounge Lizards should know that name, and not in a flattering way. Went to an Aeros game or two every year.

The airbox needs no sealing at all. Just make sure that the rubber trumpet is sound on the inlet manifold stack. The OEM breather does not need sealing either and the mod can be run without a filter if you want to do it that way.

Funny/odd or it does not run the same way all the time then see my next post.

Ping Xopti for support. If he has the time, he'll be able to help you even from Florida.

Thanks, Paint. I'll keep that in mind. I'm going to meet up with Steve tomorrow and take care of it. Just tighten the primary and that solved another of my issues. I think when I get the TPS reset it's going to feel like a whole new bike.

Thanks folks!

Eryngium, Hope reset takes care of the rest of issues for you. What i was asking about was spooge production in you're catch can and lines to catch can, not so much up in airbox. Here, it will clog up the downward hoses and fill up my can to where i think that it actually is clogging to the point that it affects motor breathing. I have a weeping off of the back rocker cover now and wonder if the system is just too much if you let it go too long. Another item I saw on web is take a load of tyes and hold the muffler valve open till you use all the tyes to keep it open. when you go ride then take it easy for a while and let the AFV restable itself. My x is really surprising me with how clean it runs now. To all, enjoy the holiday. Aeros won in OT friday night and naturally we go to the game 2 saturday night and we lose in OT. Off to new york next week!

Paul just left my place, and just a quick ride down my street, he seemed to think it was much better. His TPS seemed to be off by over 1 degree. Backing off the idle screw all the way, and forcing the throttle backwards still showed .8 to 1.2 degrees. Which is pretty significant.

A TPS reset was definitely needed.

Steve

Thanks again. Rolling along between your place in the slab, things felt good. I haven't slabbed anywhere for any distance recently, so it's a little harder to compare how it felt. I'll have a better feel after a couple commutes to work and back this week. I stopped and fueled up at home and the mileage was good, too. Again it was all highway, so not a good comparison to what I've been doing lately, but overall it felt good. Plenty of power and good response.

Thanks Steve!
