So today I got some goodies in the mail and after installing everything I have some doubts... I feel that like with most things Buell there was a good idea, followed by poor engineering...

1) The airflow redirectors feel like they could pop out at any moment, is there a way to make sure they don't fall off? I am having a bad vibe here since one of my frame pucks just fell off (1800 miles bike...)

2) Wiring loom guide/protector: whoever designed that loop the throttle cables have to do should be shunned from the MC world... Seriously???? Now: the new loom guide has a flippable bottom part that I don't understand the point of? Once flipped in position (the lower bolt goes through it)and it acts almost as a spacer... I don't get it, what's the point of it? Why not just mold it directly where it needs to be instead of making it "flippable"???

Before installing the upgraded loom guide I had the "short" original one, and already like that the throttle would get stuck and not close if I reached a left lock. Now with the new and improved loom guide it happends both at right and left opposite lock... What an improvement! Now I risk of killing myself on both directions!! LOL Before tightening the two bolts that hold it, I steered left and right in an attempt to let the cables seat where they like to be the best but I guess that didn't help much. Suggestions? I am almost tempted to have them run on top of the loom cover so that they are more free to move properly and so that they don't have to bend so hard... Has anyone done that before?

Leoallafila-

1) The airflow redirectors- I assume you're talking about these:

seem to be more secure than they look.

OTOH, they don't work nearly as well as the Comfort Kit that was introduced on the 2010 bikes.

2) That piece indeed serves as a spacer. I just removed mine to remove the wiring harness. I thought that piece was at the top- maybe you have yours upside down?

additionally, I'll put money on the fact that your fallen frame puck was NOT an poorly engineered part issue, rather a previous owner abuse/misuse issue. When installed properly, they will not fall off. Period. As was stated in your other thread, it seems clear that they were removed and poorly reinstalled, added (and poorly installed) after factory build, or replaced (and poorly installed) after a lay down. My point? Don't let a previous owner's idiocy leave you uneasy about your bike!

I agree with Hugh- the covers are better than they seem, and it does sound like maybe you have the loom cover upside down?

@ Andy: regarding the pucks as I said, the bike had 1100 miles when I got it, and I spoke to the owner about it, he never tampered with them. Whatever, I'll get a new set.

Good to know the air deflectors will not pop out. And as far as the wiring loom, I don't even think it's possible to install it upside down. I am just wondering what the point is in making that foldable spacer, ehrmmm foldable in the first place!

I'd imagine it's something to do with manufacturing. By making it a relatively uniform thickness (instead of double thickness in that one area), it solidifies at the same time so they could produce them faster? Something like that. Pretty ingenious actually.

Those air deflectors are worthless. Spend the money for the comfort kit and toss the deflectors.

If you lose your deflectors, for mailing costs, I will send you mine (if I can find them).

... or I will do Ourdee one better. I will exchange my worthless deflectors for your old frame pucks at no charge.

My '06 harness guide damaged the harness, I bought the new one. Once I got in there and fixed everything (again) I just left the guide(s) off. The whole front of the harness now swings gently with the forks instead of focusing movement at the exit from the guide. The throttle cables are now slightly restrained with a couple zipties to the now vacated bolt holes at the steering head.

Together with my massive overkill ground wire fix to the steering head I've pretty much fixed my gremlins up front.

Hey, I could use a left side puck! Mine's banged up, and a little damaged. Going to reuse it away cause I'm broke. But if your planning on throwing yours away, I could really use it...

I took my 06 harness guide off (as per Xbimmer) real quick because it was plain it could damage the wires. Bad design, not the way to do it and worked for me.

Here are a few things that will upset some. The 2010 "not run below 15mph but always running after" fan thing is a VERY serious joke. As is the comfort kit in normal air temp situations. This is because once the engine is run in it runs much cooler and the fan hardly runs at all. The other one is the 2010 rear wheel and the bigger forks.

For the hundredth time, "I love the fan on my 06". Glad there isn't any updated flash for messing with the 06/07 year fans.

So you guys are saying I should just loose the guide all together?

leoallafila, I think you should experiment with loosing the guides, for sure. When I had my fly screen off this winter I could see how the throttle cables were binding due to being so constricted under there. By allowing the cables to move up and down along side the steering head, in a controlled manner so as not to get pinched by the forks, that'll go a long way with keeping those cables less stressed.

The deflectors are a great panel in which to mount a surface mount connector for the battery tender.

Aside from that,
