Hey All,

I'm new here, just bought a 06 12x off of another member here.

It came with a set of the HB luggage racks that come on the XB12XP.

Only thing is, I don't have any of the hardware to mount the racks to the bike.

I haven't been able to find any OEM parts online in a fiche anywhere, and was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction to the parts I need.

Thank you!

Get them from a hardware store, unless you like paying HD $8 a bolt.

Yes, hardware store. You can buy stainless hex head bolts instead of the soon to rust and strip out internal hex bolts....and you can buy the whole lot for about as much as 1 bolt from the dealer!

They are all 1/4-20.

This might help:

AA0405.21CJLZB Screw (4) = 1/4-20 x 5/8
AA0406.11CZB Screw (2) = 1/4-20 x 3/4
AA0408.21CXZB Screw (6) = 1/4-20 x 1
AA0416.21CXZB Screw (2) = 1/4-20 x 2
AA0508.21CXZB Screw (2) = 5/16-18 x 1

Andy,
Watch those SS bolts you get at the hardware store.
They are less than a grade 3 and pretty soft. Don't ask how I know.
I had the store check with their supplier, it took a while but they finally got the story.
About a grade 2 strength.
So much so that they put up a note next to the SS bolts warning folks not to use them in high stress applications.

Thanks guys, I'm going to search around to see what bolts I can find.

Anybody have a suggestion of an online supplier?
What grade should I be looking for?
These racks will be supporting a lot of weight of course.

The hardware store stainless fasteners are typically 18-8 stainless steel (300 series). This 30 ksi Fy austenitic material cannot be heat treated to higher strength so the fasteners are roughly equivalent to grade 2 carbon steel hex bolts.

High strength stainless steel fasteners normally will be made of a precipitation hardening grade of stainless such as 17-4 PH. They can get up to the grade 5 to 8 carbon equivalent but are much harder to come by.

McMaster Carr does carry 17-4 PH hex screws, but they are $5.00 to $6.00 each however, they will not rust.

You get what you pay for.

Hey guys, hate to resurrect this thread from the past, but I'm only now starting to get around to dealing with the racks.

I did manage to get my hands on these, it looks like the part numbers are completely different. Looks like this is the original documentation from 2006.

The racks I have are off of a XP. Both side and top rack.

Anybody got any insight into EXACTLY what I need to mount the racks to the bike? Bolts, washers, locknuts etc.

Maybe someone can share their install instructions part pages from the newer racks with schematics?

Thanks!
