Bought my uly last September with 27 miles on it,changed the oils at 500 and at the 1000 mile service, I am going to do it again when I get it out of winter storage and I want to go with Amsoil. Is it too early to go synthetic? It is an 07 x with 1700 miles.

No such thing as too early, many vehicles come with it right from the factory.

1500 is when I switch. I did it at 500 and I started using oil. I switched back to dino for another 1000 and switched again. No problems this time.

I drained my oil at 1000 miles and refilled with H-D non-synthetic. At 3,000 miles I changed over to Amsoil 20W-50. So far, so good, no problems.

Well you can but remember this. The engine takes 4 to 6000 miles to run in but once it has the engine will run MUCH cooler after that. The engine was never designed for fully synth and semi is plenty, as for most cars/bikes, good enough.

No matter what anyone says the XB engine is still a "old iron lump" and should be treated as such. Smooth running in and lots of oil changes early on will make the engine last better in the long term.

Never let facts get in the way of a good opinion; especially on an oil thread.

The way I look at it, synthetics can take higher temperatures without breaking down. Why wouldn't you use them in an engine that creates so much heat the factory puts a fan on it to cool it at shut down. If you change oil every 1500 to 3000 miles then dino will work. If you want to go longer than that then why not use an oil that won't break down near as soon.
