So four months after my throttle shaft broke, I finally finished rotating the motor. When I got it down, I noticed something interesting. There was a missing screw. It was the one that holds the cross piece with the ignition module to the throttle body.
I wonder if that might be a contributing factor in the shaft breaking? Maybe it caused some extra vibration? |

Sanchez, you might be onto something. That surely couldn't help anything that's for sure. That screw is a PITA to get to. I must of had mine out of there 8 times in one summer just trying to get the intake to seal. Of course I didn't rotate the engine for that. |

My 06 broke its throttle shaft at 82k miles and the screw was intact. The screw is a PITA to get at. My solution: I ran an all metal locknut backwards (locking "pinch" first) onto a 1-1/2" 1/4-20 capscrew. I ran the nut on enough to leave the same length of threads sticking through it as the length of the original screw. The extra length allowed me to start the bolt into the hole easily with my fingers and the 7/16" head was easy to reach with a socket. The nut will stay locked onto the bolt, keeping the throttle body secured to the bracket. |

Mine screw was there and it still broke. My 04 12r did not have one for 15k and it never broke. The screw is not hard to get to, if you use a 1/4 inch T27 on a swivel. But I understand not having the right tools makes everything harder. |
