Hey All, Had a blast this past weekend in the Texas Hill country. Only did 700 miles or so over 3 days but what fun. The new rear tire on the 2010 wheel and new belt gave me the confidence to just ABUSE the bike and I did, Right up to when a constible introduced himself to us 4 riders in my group. Double Yellow pass = $300 from my pocket. OUCH! If you plan on riding the 3 sisters and the area be mindfull of THOUSANDS of bicycles and slow cruisers and car club drives at below the speed limit. Way to many law enforcers and the roads are a bit chewed up and there are VERY FEW AREAS WITH NO DOUBLE YELLOW LINES ! We will stick to Arkansas thank you. Had an absolute blast on the hills and dips and radical elevation changes in the turns though. I was laughing out loud in my helmet! Fun for 90% sept for the traffic. Weather was perfect. BDRAG | ||

I rode the 3 sisters back in June. It was a weekday and fairly early in a damp morning so I had the roads all to myself. Out here in CA we have twisty roads and roads with elevation changes but nothing like that roller coaster ride in Texas. What a blast! The road surface was very course, like riding on zero-grit sandpaper, but traction was great. I got to round the edges off my tires after many miles of straight roads. | ||

RR335, RR336, & RR337a between San Antonio and Junction, TX. It is pretty spectacular, but there is a lot of law enforcement and slow moving traffic. Go early in the morning on a weekday for maximum enjoyment. Otherwise you will just find yourself frustrated or in jail. | ||

I have had a 5 year love affair with the twisted sisters the first 2 with my old BMW and the last 3 with my Uly. I have orn out many a tire carving up the canyons around Leakey TX. I agree the best time to ride is after the whitetail have gone to bed and before the hungover hogtail cruisers awaken, when you have the roads to yourself    | ||

after the whitetail have gone to bed Good point. There can be quite a bit of wildlife, particularly on 336. Also cattle. And cattle guards. | ||

Yes, nothing puckers you up quicker, then coming around a blind corner full tilt only to find Junior and his Harem saunterting around in the middle of the road, and no soft landing on either shoulder. | ||

Encountered the local wildlife (Axis, not Whitetail) on 335 about 5 miles north of Barksdale July of 09. Thought I was done for, but the local EMS was awesome (apparently lots of practice with MC wrecks). Took really good care of me - even got a $17,000 helicopter ride to the ER in San Antonio. Plus 1 on going during the week - definitely bag the weekends. Double plus one on wearing quality gear - nothing soft anywhere you'll be landing on or off the road. Google twisted sisters texas and you'll find some good stuff. |
