I had metal on metal contact on my rear disc and brake pad. I still had .004" of material on that pad too. The outer backing was hitting the disc though. Local hd wanted 51 bones for new rear pads. ouch... I thought I'd better check the fronts while I was working on it. The lesser of the two had .013" of material on it so I put on a set of partially used ones from my tool box. Just over 15,000 miles on the stock pads. I'm thinking I should consider changing pads with the tires. I got about 10,000 miles on the first set of tires. yada yada yada
