Back in from a 3k ride in Western Montana. Mountain roads, Forest Service, BLM, Fire Roads and nasty mining roads. The Uly never skipped a beat. Happy with the Avon Distanzias, would have been better with knobbies.

Also found some company.

I did'nt take a lot of pix. Too busy hanging on for dear life. There are places an XT has no business going.
I would, however, like to thank the State of Montana for getting a 4" layer of fresh gravel on all the flat back country roads. Kudos to the mining companies for dumping their crushed boulders on the high trails and to the nice folks who made the pot holes on the rest of the roads.

Skalkaho Falls near the top of Skalkaho Pass (7,200 ft, but the road is all dirt and gravel).

Campsite out of Marysville. Welcome relief after a ride on mine slag.

Itileman! Headed out Friday from PacNW to MT for 2K adventure. How much pavement? Wouldn't you eat up your knobbies? Euly

Rode mostly 2 lane pavement, but the stretches of dirt were long (140+ miles one day). Don't have knobbies and the Distanzias showed little wear. Where are you coming from/headed?

For those wondering, the XT is not a way off road, nasty trail, mining road bike. Could not keep up with the KTM's, GS's, etc., plus, being overloaded with camping comforts does not help.

I can see you struggling with KTMs and the kind of yeehaw riding they can do with your XT. But they would DIE trying to follow you on an XT journey. Yuk.

You need a dirty dual sport I think for the kind of buddies you run with.

Leaving Friday AM from N. of Seattle to Great Falls (visit Mom...grew up in GF) via Plains/Polson/Kalispell. Then from Griffles to Custer monument Monday...camping overnight and then back to Griffles. Wandering home after that. Euly

I like those Gobi bags on there. I have Zegas on mine. Had I known about the Gobis when i bought them, I may have gone that way instead.

Looks like it was a fun trip.

hey,
I am on a 2500M ride right now from SD to NW Montana. I am in Whitefish. Spent a couple of days visiting the old haunts. (Used to live here) Heading home tomorrow. Will stop in Sturgis on the way. My brother lives in Deadwood. Uly hasn't missed a beat. Weather has been perfect.

That's Skinstains. Has a TKC 80 on the rear. Can't remember what's up front, possibly a Shinko of some sort. He rode out from the east coast and did the change around here. Seems to fit just fine.

Thanks. It was hard to come home. Work is a four letter word.
