Came across the Madstad windshield system, does anyone have one or have opinions on which is better, Palmer or Madstad?

Palmer wins hands down. The fatal flaw of the Madstad is that it replaces the flyscreen. It will look terrible and dosen't match the plastics. The Palmer one just replaces the rubber windshield grommets.

I can't speak of those two, but I have the Parabellum 26 inch ULY shield. No complaints at all. Replaces the 4 rubber grommets and has handle bar braces.

I have the Madstad and it is perfect. I liked the idea of the flyscreen being metal.

+1 Madstad. Can be adjusted while you ride in case the weather changes in a hurry.

+2 Madstad. With the Madstad, In the summer I run the stock screen, fall the 16 parabellum and in the winter the 26 in parabellum. When I have the 26 incher... I really like the idea of the metal fly screen.

With the Madstad and the 26" screen, I have to either remove the thumb screws and replace with a real bolt and nut or use the extra braces that come with the Parabellum. With the thumb screws it can move back a bit since its such a big screen.

+3 (?) Palmer.

My Uly's red. The Madstad comes with a black flyscreen. Raising my windshield should not require painting parts.

Have any of you seen this?

http://www.madstad.com/s.nl/it.A/id.433/.f

I'm assuming it must be new for Madstad because it uses the stock flyscreen.

Thanks for your input!

For Me madstadt wins- had both and sold the Palmer. Madstadt is function over form - no vibration like the Palmer, don't care that it is flat black and my bike is the faster orange - BUT you pay for it...$$$. I use two positions - all the way down for smooth riding, and up and back for rain deflection.

I've had both, Madstad won, there was no comparison.

I haven't seen that, but it's still double the cost of the Palmer. So I'd still get the Palmer again.

I have the tall shield, and get no vibrations at all with the Palmer.

I did the Madstad and like it, I went with the 20 inch Spyder shield, My bike was on the Madstad web site at one time in blue. I added foam between the base and aluminum Fly screen to reduce the windshields shake which was at time considerable at idle and to keep out some of the wet eliments from drenching all the electrical conections behind the fly screen.

I also found it nessasary to upsize the mounting screws because of the added foam and hole size which caused me to strip out all the OEM sized screw holes. Tapped them and opened up the fly screen holes and its fine now. The Black Fly Screen goes with any color in my opinion. Its allowed me to have a Black, Blue, Valincia Orange and a soon to arrive Yellow bike by simply changing out the Airbox cover. Transformers - Dah dah dah da daaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh.

Its also very stout especially since I have screws 2 sizes larger holding it on. Its rock solid at speeds of 120 mph. I do get an significant wobble around 100 but it doesn't get any worse at top end its just the fact that the shake comes on suddenly. Now that I know its comming I am ready for it! HAhahaaaaaa.

I really like the fact that Mark at Madstad has decided to offer the option to use the OEM colored Fly Screen to those who want that version. Shows he is on top of what people desire. Go Mark!

The Palmer brackets look like a solid product as well but I liked the Madstad aluminum piece and thats what had me go that direction and the ease of adjustment also helped sell me on Madstad. I have the older single brackets and not the new double link version. I wanted the 4 knob adjustment ease and did not want to have to use a wrench to adjust it.

My Bike with the OEM shield on with the black Airbox cover.

I just recently purchased the Palmer brackets and I really like them. They have an option of four knobs instead of screws to make adjustment simple and tool free. I went with that option. I also had the brackets powdercoated black for an upcharge and they look very nice. I use it with my stock 10 XT screen, which I understand is different from some of the earlier years, but I don't know when they changed. Anyway, in the few weeks I have had the brackets I have really liked them.

I don't doubt the Madstad is great as well. I don't regret my purchase of the Palmer brackets at all though.

I got the Madstad 18 `` adventure screen in smoke tint, found some .125 thick smoked stuff at Menards and made lowers. I run the brackets about an inch up and almost vertical for the stillest quietest air pocket for me and put it down and back for rain so it blows my face shield clean at speed. I look over the top not thru it so it works way better than the original.

Not sure about that... if you compare apples to apples.

Looking at the link above, the Madstad setup is 199 for the brackets and screen. Madstads come black powdercoated with the thumbscrews.

If you go to Palmers web site, the Mount with Black powder coat is 58 pds if you add a medium size screen 80pds... the total is about 138 pds. Converted to USD thats about $215.

So, to me prices are pretty even.

Ah, I did not see that madstad setup came with a screen. I thought it was just the brackets. My double the price statement was inaccurate.

But still, for me, all I wanted was to adjust the OEM screen a bit. And Palmer still wins for doing that.

the link referenced above

http://www.madstad.com/s.nl/it.A/id.433/.f

Is for the stock fly screen version of the brackets with a (20in) windshield.

Madstad also state on the web site you can get just the brackets for the stock fly screen. But I did not see any what to order it that way... all his listed packages includes wind sheilds for this configuration.

I sent him an email to ask....

Not good with pictures and one of them broke transporting the bike in the truck. Now that they are off there is not as much of a still air pocket and the madstad is all the way up and back to be almost as quiet.
