Well my "Race ECM" for my 09X from Erik Buell Racing came in today, after installing it there were a couple things different at start up with a cold engine..The engine rpm went to 1800-2000 for 2-3min,then lowered to 1500 for about a min, then the fan came on and the rpms lowered to normal..Rode the bike and did a nice ECM learn, the bike absolutely ran flawless!! While coming to a stop so did the fan just like normal at 15mph..I've never had the fan come on while sitting there warming up,I thought it was because the rpms were higher so the rear cylinder was getting hotter quicker?..The bike appears to be more responsive and accelerates better from 2000-6000 rpms, and here's the icing on the cake,I used to have some decel popping, but not anymore,I could not get it to pop no matter what rpm I was coming down from.. AWESOME!! I only rode it 50 miles this afternoon,Will be checking the plugs to see what they look like..IMO Very much worth the $250 bucks,We'll see how it behaves in the future...Thanks Erik Buell Racing!!...........Tim

How does power come on just off idle? I've thought of doing the xb9 primary to help off the line, but have lately been thinking of this race ecm. What about freeway cruising? Any change?

Keep us informed please. My '08 ran beautifully just like that when I first put the Erik Buell Racing ECM in, but has deteriorated since. It's not terrible now, but it has a severe stumble when cruising at about 2900 rpm, a "deadness" between 4-5K rpm at partial throttle positions, and it hunts for an idle speed on cold starts. WOT is pretty darned good though!

Not trying to be a buzzkill, I'm hoping that Erik Buell Racing has cured the problems. I e-mailed them about mine some weeks ago and was told they were looking into it. I've heard no news since....

Jim_williams,
How does power come on just off idle? Well it seems like stock, but the throttle is definately more responsive, but your gearing change could make the bike quicker off the line, but this definately helps..As for "Freeway Cruising" it seems to be about the same..This ecm change just seems to make the bike more aggressive, wants to be ridden harder?..Hope this helps..

Rwven, I will keep you informed,it seems that the map is definately more richer in places..I rode from 2700' to 6500' today with no issues, but the main reason I bought it was for the "Sea Level" rides coming this summer...Hey,keep us informed w/ your status w/ Erik Buell Racing..I'm sure it will all work out, they are some really good people and want to make things right...Tim

That is exactly how my 2010 Uly runs with a cold start.

12x9sl,wow,before this ecm change,my fan never came on at warm up..But it didn't idle at 2,000 rpms either..I would've thought the 10's ecm would be just like the 09's..

Yeah, I bought the bike when it was cold out-never even heard it run before I bought it and brought it home. I finally had an opportunity to go riding, I started it and it idled at 2 grand. I was on the verge of being very disgusted. But, everything was fine.

Mine is the same a Rwven's and it starts its journey back to the USA for reflashing tomorrow.
EB R has been helpful in trying to sort it out, but there is only so much one can do via email.

Idaho-buelly,
I haven't heard anything yet, but I haven't been e-mailing myself either. I'll have to fire off an e-mail next week asking if there is any solution worked out yet. Judging by Redbuell's post it sounds like Erik Buell Racing may have come up with something.

Rwven, after riding it some 500 miles now,I do see a little hessitation in the upper rpms if I really get on it,almost like there might be too much fuel at that point?..Also there is a slight surging at cruising speed....Let me know if you find anything out..Thanks a bunch!.....Tim

I'm interested in what you find out too Rwven, I'm having similar issues with my racing ecm. I replaced mine with the stock for now due to the cold start issues and fuel consumption.

My fuel consumption is still good,(open road 53mpg)and I don't seem to have a rpm hunting issue either(yet)..

Well I figured out what was causing the flat spot(hesitation)around 4500rpms,it was the exhaust valve cable needed adjusting, little too lose, made the cable adjustment and it pulls very well all of the way up!!..
