Just read in the previous post about an "upgraded throttle cam". Did a search and came up with nothing. Can anyone tell me what year this occurred and what did it accomplish? Slower throttle opening or quicker opening?

Someday- I remember reading about the change but I've never seen a part number or photo. IIRC the change was to the 2008-up Ulys. I believe the idea was that it gave a more gradual throttle opening initially, but required less "twist" overall to go to wide open. No idea if the cam will fit earlier Ulys or not.

Thanks Hugh, I have an '08 and wouldn't mind a "quicker still" throttle.

Hugh is correct. The 06 07's had a round throttle activator. They had a problem with jerking at slow speeds and the quick throttle made it worse. With ECMSPY you could fix the leaness that caused the problem. The factory made a cam shaped activator that opened the throttle slowly at first to help cope with the jerkyness and then would open increasingly faster after that. I would like the new style on my 06 for better throttle control at the lower speeds, especially off road. The throttle bodies are completely different but I don't know if the actuators can be changed.

Tootal, Thanks for the clarification. If you find they are interchangeable I might swap with you, if you want. I don't ride off road. Keep it in mind.

Don

I imagine that I was the poster of that throttle cam stuff. I demo'd an 08' out at Sturgis when they came out and couldn't believe how weak it felt just off idle. Taking off from stop signs was anemic compared to my 06. Don't know if that was fixed but it was really bad. Like taking off on one cylinder.

That's how I feel about my Uly (08 XT)... I'd rather have the quicker throttle. Somebody figure this out!

I don't see it listed as a separate part, so this would have to be a homebrewed fix.

From the Buell "2008 Model Year Technical Forum":

NEW One Piece Induction Module
• New throttle body incorporates a pintle
style Idle Air Control (IAC) unit
• Idle speed is now controlled by the
new DDFI3 ECM and the IAC
• The idle speed adjustment cable has
been eliminated
• Progressive throttle cam on the
throttle body to decrease twist
sensitivity at closed throttle and
reduce overall angle of rotation
necessary to fully open the throttle

I've had it my 05 on my bike for over a year and a half...

You need

New Cam
New throttle cables

Modify the throttle cable plates to hold your idle adjuster

The plate is stainless and I took a stainless wing nut cut on side up and had a friend tig weld it on to my liking..

This was my first attempt by using both plates..

Teddagreek, it looks from the pic like your top cable is rubbing on the top allen bolt. Or is that just the camera angle? Seems like that would prematurely wear out your cable.

Good Question from memory it's just the angle...I don't know how much much it slops around?... I only used old/new plate combo for about a month..

I'm going to be redoing my catch can over holidays I'll take pictures of the final version..

Fun mod, I'd actually like to try it shorter but I'm good for now..
