New guy with new (to me) 2009 X. Made the mistake of riding an 07 Uly in Great Falls MT Harley shop (good shop BTW). That bike died on the highway so salesguy (well informed guy) brought out another used Uly and I took off. Had to leave town before verdict on why it died came in. My buddy accidently rode it too...my fault. Now he owns that one and I found a month old 09 in Portland 3 weeks ago...took it to coast with wife on vacation. Love the bike! Swiss Army bike. My DR650 gathering dust and dead battery.

Have the 1000 mile to do and Comfort Kit...who would you recommend as passionate Buell dealer in Seattle area? Seattle Harley Cycle Barn guys seemed clueless when trying to get the parts and make an appointment. They were clueless. It was a fact.

Thank you forum founders and Buell owners for the quality of this site.

I just moved to the Seattle area this summer and had a major catastrophe with my 07 Uly. The guys at EastSide in Bellevue did a pretty good job of taking care of things, from a service standpoint. Can't comment about the sales guys.

Destination Harley on Puyallup south hill service guys seamed pretty knowledgeable haven't had any work done by them, but just talking with them, they at least seamed interested in the Buell and seamed to care. I don't know much about the parts department.

Make the ride south to Latus Motors in Portland. They are a site sponsor and have an excellent Buell salesman (Dave)who is very knowledgeable and passionate about the brand. They also have several excellent Tech's who really know Buell. Heck their Service Manager rides am 1125r.

I have had good and bad from Downtown and Seattle Harley...I have heard that destination in Puyallup did a stand up job for a friend of mine....

Puyallup Parts dept pretty good - got comfort kit thru them. I've had 08' Uly serviced at both the Puyallup & Kent (just west of hwy 167) dealer. (Destination & Legend I believe) Have had no issues with either - did what they said they were going to do and no hamfisted damage or problems resulted. Another Badwebber (Jerry) likes Kent shop - the Buell service tech (Kevin) is pretty knowledgeable. Portland maybe an excellent shop - problem is... are you going to establish a 'relationship' with a dealer that requires a 320 mi round trip ??

Kevin at Downtown Harley (the Kent shop) is doing a 2010 rear wheel for me now on my 2006, and did my 10,000 mi. service several years back (I do my own service now thanks to BadWeb). As far as I can tell, all his work was top notch, but Downtown still doesn't seem to stock many parts.

On the other other hand, I would not go back to Eastside Harley in Bellevue. Maybe things are better there now, but I bought my 2006 Uly there, and they did a belt replacement for me under warranty. The replacement belt was OK, but the rear bearings failed less than 100 miles after they had the bike. Not saying that they did anything to the bearings, but the mechanics were working on that part of the bike and didn't notice anything. Also, they had no parts. They had to order a valve stem for me.

Yeah - I would definitely stick with Puyallup or Kent - Haven't heard alot of complementary comments about Seattle shop.

Great response Left Coasters! Right thinking of course. Looks like Puyallup, Kent and Latus are the winners. I made the trans for this 09 at Latus and met Dave. Good fellow. Liked the shop. Service guy very helpful with newbie questions and parts gal was too. Too far for me though...Puyallup or Kent then. Thanks so much! George

George - Don't know exactly where you live but...Puyallup is off hwy 512 about 5 mi south on Meridian. (AKA Hwy 161) That has got to be the worst 5 mi of endless stoplites/congestion possible in Pierce Co. I like the dealer fine, but not conveniently located - must have got the land cheap. Kent is pretty easy to get to. 1 min off Hwy167. Your call. You might inquire what the cost of the work is your having performed & see if there is a substantial diff. Good luck. J

Thanks Jphish. Good point (unless I was in Puyallup for gun show, right?) and appreciate the directions. Not much of a freeway rider or much for going south from Mount Vernon even caged. Yuk.

I handheld the parts guy at Seattle Harley through the comfort kit (which was my clue) and the bolts for the luggage rack (got bags and rack off Ebay but no bolts). FYI...the bolts are $98 and could not bring myself to figure out what they were at Lowes on a brand new bike. So save your bolts!

This bike is maintenence free right? Who needs a dealer? Now we know why it is hard to find good Buell dealers. Not enough upsell components to attract a businessman...and no maintenence. Simple math here.

I might just pick up those parts and wade into my precious...unless you all think that the 1000 mile is dealer important. Also the Comfort ECM upgrade...I am afraid Seattle Harley would not even know where to find it. Maybe do everything I can and end up in Kent for dealer work. Thanks for all your help. Feeling good now...

If you're thinking about doing your own work, I'd recommend getting a shop manual and using American Sportbike as your parts department. Al is very knowledgeable and carries most everything you'll need (and the parts are delivered to your door).

Yep - I'd ditto Steve on that. Al @ American Sport Bike is very helpful. I did have the 1000 mi service done @ the dealer, just because 2 years ago, I still didn't know squat about these iconic machines. Since then (other than warranty work) I bought the manual & do my own maint. It aint too hard... even for us mechanically impaired. (I'm slow but cheap) I Installed my own comfort kit - the parts guy @ Puyallup (Dave) was very helpful. It wasnt in the 'system' yet but he hung with me for 20 min on the phone and figured out how to get it.

Eulysses - Don't overlook Destination Harley-Davidson / Buell in Tacoma. I've only had my XT since the end of June, so I've only had the 1K service to date, but they were reasonable (if $290 can be considered {reasonable)...

No issues with the comfort kit, but did the install myself. Confirmed through the service department that the re-flash is only 1/2 hour of labor ($45), not bad since some have stated on this site that different shops are charging significantly more (and some even less...). Haven't done the re-flash yet, but will in the next few weeks.

Dave at the parts counter is a Uly owner, and at least one other guy in parts rides a Buell.

All in all, farther away than Kent, less hassle than Meridan, right off I-5.

As you already know, these bikes are awesome - - Enjoy.

Paul

"The comfort kit" is pretty new, as of last year it was called the Right Side Scoop and it was anthema to talk about it ; )

Goin into the Harley Shops it always helps to have the part numbers handy, because... they will have to be ordered, you probably have a better grasp of the parts and installation than you think... and they are all 7-10 days away....

American Sport bike on the other hand, they KNOW their bikes, and got it on hand. Your call.

Looks like a heat shield and right side scoop to me.

I already have the non factory approved Carbon Fiber unit so didnt really look beyond the glossy pic. So if it something other than a right side scoop and an additional heat shield. I stand corrected.

'City' - The missing piece is the shroud under the seat pan. Can't see it from the pic. j
