Australian born 'Davo" was a member here a couple years back when he told tales of riding his Uly in Australia.

100 miles from the finish line of the last IronButt Rally, he hit a deer. Sad day for all of us.

Is Davo the guy that sold his ULY because his 06' had the pinging problem?

You got to wonder how tired he was when he hit that deer.

RIP Davo

I think so.
Very knowledgeable guy and quick to offer help / advice.
Riding brings much joy to a lot of people, myself included. This is the sucky part.
RIP Davo.

EG, not the same Davo.....the guy with the pinging problem is alive and well living in southside Virginia. He did sell his Uly though. He was over at my house not long ago.

Davo Jones will surely be missed and was quite an accomplished LD rider. Seems like there were an inordinate amount of deer strikes reported in this years IBR. The mystery of no helmet for Davo just does not add up????

So sad, and such a wrong way to go: a dumb deer near the end of the rally. He was a long way from home...I hope he saw some great things over here on his last ride. I wish peace for him, but especially for his family and friends.

I posted this on another board, but I knew Davo a little from the Concours.org forums, as before he bought a C14 and I moved to a Uly, we rode identical 1997 C10's, despite being a world apart. Both being LD riders, we had discussed a number of things related to setting up bikes for LD riding (aux. fuel, etc.). By all accounts, he was a first class individual, and a real ambassador to the sport of long-distance riding. I was extremely sad to hear of his crash and even sadder to find that he didn't make it. He will be missed.

RIP Davo. Gone doing something I'm sure he enjoyed. I lost a friend after he hit a cow lying in the road. Sucks.

Davo was certainly a colorful character over at the concours.org forum. My thoughts go out to his family.

The dears are one of my biggest worries. One can pay extreme attention in traffic and be OK, at least we have some control over the situation. A dear just materialize in front of you, then it is mainly luck not to hit them.

I was lucky a couple months ago. Two materialized in front of me. I could not determine which way they would bolt. I picked the middle and they went in opposite directions to each side of the road. Had my heart rate up!
