Edit: I can't fix the title, I meant "Psychic"

Has anyone else noticed that if your bike is going to break down and leave you stranded, it likes to do it in front of your destination? Coming home last night, my clutch cable finally snapped after being on its last hairs for about a week. It did it in my drive way, which is uphill, so now my bike is stuck parked in the middle of a hill and I can't even pop it into neutral to try and push it up. For the fun of it, I tried to ride it up the hill on the starter, needless to say that wasn't very wise : D

Last time my bike left me stranded, the belt snapped down the road from my house so I just gave it a quick push to get home. I also have read on here from other people like Danger Dave that they would have something happen right as they pull into the parking lot at work.

Anyone else had good luck with the bad luck?

Not with my Uly, but with my S3. I went on a ~250 mile ride one Sunday, got home that night about 6 PM, and parked the bike. Got up the next day to ride the bike to work and the battery was dead. Subsequent troubleshooting showed my stator had fried sometime the previous day, I'd guess about 50 miles from home. It had to be close enough so that I had enough juice left in the battery to run the headlight, ignition, and fuel pump until I got home.

THAT was good timing.

My Uly left me stranded in the ardennes a 130 mls from home. (broken belt)

Did I mention it rained that entire day.
Did I mention I waited for 3 hours in the rain before the helpservices I'm a member of showed up.

Did I mention that I still had a smile on my face when I got home : )

I have an '08. I heard that "improved" the clutch cable placement or something right? i.e. Mine is not as likely to break/fry, etc?

I was ATV camping in a state forest with friends and a buddys clutch cable broke on his old 200X.After some chin scratching I took off his park brake cable and cut the housing and made it work for the clutch cable and off we went.

My City-X had the oil light come on after a two hundred mile ride, just as I was turning around to my driveway. Shut it off, coasted in(1/8 of a mile). Very low oil level.

Uly ran out of gas on a 90F day a half block from a gas station. (it was up hill though)

Uly quit and would not restart about 600 feet from my destination(forty eight miles out). Cam sensor wires shorted in rain, it restarted five times getting that far. Just wouldn't fire up that last time.

Only ones that left me out there was; the clutch cable broke, I rode that 20 miles without it to get to cell phone range,; When the rear wheel bearings puked, I called for a ride so as not to wipe out the wheel, axle and such.

I had a throttle cable snap in my driveway on an old beater I had, two flat tires on my truck in my driveway, and crashed more times than I will admit in my driveway.

Moral of the story: Stay out of the driveway.

April 2006 - Fan went out near Montgomery, AL on the way to races in Birmingham (450 miles from home).

October 2008 - Stator went out north of Atlanta on the way to Buelltoberfest (500 miles from home).

Sorry, Froggy. I don't seem to have your luck.

My stator gave out at the Home Depot parking lot 3 days before I was supposed to head up to NC for the Memorial Day weekend. It was nice enough to start on the second attempt, allowing me to JUST make it home the 6 miles.

I think it is still trying to make up for the first wheel bearing replacement being required 500 miles from home on Good Friday last year.

That wasn't a fun day.

Froggy et al - Well you've had better luck on malfunctions "in the privacy of your own home". Blown rear shock in YellowKnife, about 2000 mi from homebase, and broken pawl spring in Salem Or, about 200 mi from the garage. I've been diligent about all the PM & carry spare parts etc. But sometimes stuff happens - after 10K mi hopefully the Uly has passed it's 'growing pains' stage. j
