Fan no worky.it was rattling and weezing before it crapped out. Keeps blowing fuses.in asheville, nc.5 hours from home nearest dealer is 2.5 hours (smhd) if they have a fan. Fully packed bags and my ol lady. 80 degrees.

can I still ride back home? Will this really jack up my bike? Any ideas, suggestions or snide remarks?

Remove fan for better flow?

I would ride it home. As long as you are moving you should get enough airflow. While cruising the fan on my 08 does not come on even on 100 degree days.

Keep riding, have fun. With today's oils you should be fine for a while at those temps, however try not to get stuck in any traffic!

The only time my fan has turned on (on the road), backed up traffic on 100 degree day. My 08 XT fan ONLY comes on when I stop. You should be OK. make certain oil level is up to give any extra help on cooling the motor. Good Luck.

The fan comes on at shutdown to keep the rear oil from cooking. With that in mind you might want to change your oil soon after the fan is replaced.

Tillys is probably your closest Buell dealer.

If the motor overheats, the ECM will kick it into skip-spark mode. I would ride it home, as long as it stayed out of that mode (you will know.)

Barker, you still out there? You are not too far from my neighborhood. If you have a problem, need tools or tow let me know. I will PM my cell to ya.

My fan crapped out 600 miles from home, mid summer '07. I gave the oil tank a shot of Lucas oil additive and rode it home with a little caution. When I could see where I was going to stop I took the speed up, shut it down and coasted in. Avoid roads with stop lights as much as possible. No ill effects 20,000 miles later.

Remember that the Buell has the rear cylinder deactivation if it gets too hot. I would keep speeds down to no greater than 65mph and ride it home. If the fan is blowing fuses its time to change it out. Same thing happened to mine. After getting the old fan out, the resistance in the winding of the motor was enough to melt the weather seal. It is not hard to change the fan out, just follow the instructions in the manual.

I'm in knoxville every thing seems ok. No spark skip yet. I'm going for home. It had fresh oil. I will put new oil in during fan swap.
I have been taking it easy when I can.

Thanx for the support.

Glad you made it home OK. Seems like the 06 fans are more prone to giving up than later ones. Hopefully this will be a one-time job.
