?? supposedly it's easy to put cruise control on any bike that is fuel injected, so why can't you hook it up to the buell. i am no mechanic and it's been a while since i've stayed at a holiday inn.

Of course it can be done. On the Buell the major obstacle is finding an aesthetically pleasing location to mount the servo unit. There is a company in Australia that makes a motorcycle specific electronic cruise control. There unit might fit better, but it is pricey.

Hello, new to the board. Is the servo just tracking speed from a speedo cable. Y can't someone ditch the servo and control speed from the tach/rpm signal.

The point of the servo is to open/close the throttle as your speed changes like going up a hill. It works the same way as cruise control in a car.

Hey, guys, this is what I teach! Control systems! A cruise control is a classic example of a closed-loop feedback control system.

Whatcha need is access to a speed measurement (in this case, digital), an actuator to affect the throttle setting (could be RC-type servo, stepper motor, etc.), and the software to tie 'em together (the control action will probably be PID-type...Proportional-Integral-Derivative for decent dynamics and no steady-state error).

Good luck. People have done it, as was noted.

i don't know if our bikes have idle air control valves or not, or if they effect the engine speed while driving or not.

on a program i used to work on, we used the IAC valve as a throttle control on ford trucks to control the engine speed to account for engine load with an engine mounted generator.

on vehicles with no IAC valve, we used a stepper motor with a cable to tie in to the linkage just like a cruise control. but it was a bit large for motorcycle use.

The 08's and newer use a IAC.

For a speed sensor an ABS pickup ring could be attached to a wheel hub and sensor could be attached to the fork tube.

If Buell ever goes to the wireless throttle it would be a simple electronics controller. Harley already does this however they have had some gremlins with the wireless throttle. Maybe when they get the bugs out Buell will go that way, not that I'm a big fan of it but it does make cruise control much easier and lighter. The problem for us is how do you hook another cable to the throttle body? You would have to exchange it for a modified version. I've thought about this, just haven't figured it all out yet. Not a lot of room on the Buell for the servos.
