Seriously, there's a lot to love about this bike. Differences between the 06 and the 09:

Fueling-The 09 injects cleanly at low revs, all the way to the top. My 06 took a few thousand miles for the ECM and FI to find harmony. It eventually did, but the new one has it RIGHT NOW.

Vibration-The 09, brand-new, is as smooth as the 06 was when I let her go(13k). At speed, they are/were both smooth as silk. 09 vibes a bit more at idle than the used Uly-it's still breaking in. On that note, the 06 always told me when I was at 4100 rpm with a coarse, loping vibe. The 09 does the same, but at a different spot on the tach. Having said that, the vibes don't bother me at all, on either bike.

Horn/lights-both these seem improved over the 06. The lights are noticeably brighter with a clear top cutoff line, and the horn is so piercing I ALMOST don't feel the need for the Stebel. But it will find its way in there eventually. As will HID's.

Cooling fan-runs more than I expected. A bit less than the 06, but most of the guys I know with 08s only hear the fan after shutoff. Mine runs anytime it's hot, and for quite some time(6-7 mins) after shutdown. Not a biggie, just noticeable. Maybe it will change after break-in.

The new pegs are great! Very secure when standing. And they look bitchin'.

MPG-40 so far, with about 400 miles on her. Hoping it will improve with time, but doubtful I'll get the advertised 55/64 or whatever is in the brochure.

Front end-the steering lock is a godsend, and the fork springs blow me away. In general, the suspension rocks my world. I haven't even fiddled with it yet, but the combination of plushness, compliance, and control makes me think this is the perfect motorcycle for me.

In brief, this is a fantastic machine.

GREAT SUCCESS!

Thanks for the review - means more from someone who has ridden both for awhile. Makes me look forward to the replacement to MY '06 (which I expect will happen in about 5-7 years!).

The new pegs have a different grip pattern?

Hooper- Yep, there have been a couple of threads on the subject. I posted side-by-side photos of 07 and 09 pegs. The difference is subtle, but evidently it works. The "blocks" have sharper edges and appear to be slightly higher on the edge towards the bike.

Hugh is correct-there is certainly more of a slant to the blocks on the 09 pegs, and the 'feel' is clearly grippier.

I LIKE!!!!

Another observation-

The heated grips on the 09 seems to be hotter (if that's possible) than the 06, and reach that point quicker. Sear or slow roast, your choice.

Another 'Ulysses learnings to make benefit great collective of badweb'-

Magically, after precisely 500 miles, the cooling fan started to run less, or not at all while in motion(it's now got about 700 miles). I took a 35 mile freeway trip today, with a bit of stop and go, and no fan till I turned it off. I have noticed several times recently where this has happened.
