Does anyone use Mobile 1 v-twin oil in there bike? And if so, can it be used in the primary also. Cant stand buying the HD oil, and want to switch to something else.

Only use Formula+ in the primary! Anything else can lead to stator damage.

Syn3 might damage my stator? It's what I am running in my primary now....

AFAIK the only lubricant ever accused of causing stator failure in Buells is Mobil-1 75W-90 gear oil (this would probably apply to other gear oils as well due to the additives they use). People have run Mobil-1 V-twin, Mobil-1 15W-50 auto oil, and Syn3 in the primary without problems.

All that said, Formula+ seems to work at least as well as any of those lubricants and is what Buell recommends.

To me, the advantage of Syn3, is that on a trip I need only carry one type of oil.

Plus I don't have a stator, so no need to worry about it failing.

My $0.02
I've logged well over 30 thousand miles on my Xb's and I have used Mobil 1 syn 20-50 in my primaries for all of them and never had an issue.

Of course though everyone has their own opinions. Hell I think that the oil topic trumps politics in the "Dont ask dont tell and dont talk about it" idea.

Honestly though, when in doubt just follow what the mfg (Buell in this case) says to use. That way if something does go wrong you can at least use that to hold over their head.

I've got 4 bikes with a combined 80,000 miles and all using Mobil 1 15W50 Wallymart automotive syn. None of the bikes use oil. And it is cheap compared to the over priced and hyped V-twin specific oils. 06' ULY, 97' Electraglide, 89' YX600 Radian, 07' Sportster. Paying more for V-twin specific synthetic oil isn't any better than 15W50 auto syn and only accomplishes one thing, wallet lightening.
P.S. I haven't used it in the HD/ULY primaries but suppose I could since it hasn't had an adverse affect on the Radian's gears or shifting in the 20,000 miles we've put on the bike. Been using Belray Gearsaver oil for that.

the only mobil one that might conflict with your stator, is the mobil one gear oil... mobil one v-twin will not hurt your primary...ive got over half a million miles on bikes that ive run v-twin in..

I am running Valvoline Synpower 20W50 and expect I will run it in the primary as well. Tests out superior to Mobil1, though either is probably just fine.

Bought it on sale at Checker, though Advance has BOGOs on it from time to time.

Mobil 20W50 oil is $9.49 a quart here in Dallas, TX.

I just bought 3 quarts for my oil change.

I also just picked up 1 quart of the Formula plus from HD and it was $9 as well.
