Today I rode for about 3 hrs. Twisties, small towns, etc. Thought I would revisit the seat comfort thing on my '08.
This was longest time that I've spent in the saddle so far. I was planning on going to MBV in a couple of weeks and I'm not sure now if I'm going to be able to make it. It was offered to me to try a couple of different seats by some of you guys to determine which seat that I needed to buy.
The dealer told me that the part numbers are different for the '07 and '08 seats so he assumes they are different seats. The '08 seat sucks for me. It seems like it is leaning forward. I've ordered some 1" risers but I don't think that will fix my problem.

Has anyone been able to compare the 07 and 08 seats to know if they are the same?

How comfy is the low seat?

I could probably make the '06 seat for me(height), but someone said that seat is too soft and not comfy.

I bought this bike because of the all day comfort that I heard about and never thought that I could only stay on it for a few minutes at a time.

Help! I just wanna ride my bike.

I HATED the '07 and '08 seats. They, to me, suck. Others feel they are the best thing since sliced bread. I like to slide forward and backward. The seat was only wide enough at the rear and was too narrow at the front. I felt like I was sitting on a 2x4.

I liked the '06 seat, but the seams cut into my legs after a few hours and became uncomfortable. It was plenty firm.

I have the '06 low seat currently. I love it the best. I can ride all day with no hot spots, no monkey butt, no discomfort.

I also like the material. The stock '06 seat was nylon and because I wear nylon riding pants they griped together and wouldn't let me slide across it.

Sounds to me like you need the '06 low seat. Firm, gel padded, and better cover material.

Look forward to seeing you at MBV.

Chris - if you don't make it to MBV, my offer still stands to try the 06 Low. It cost me less than $20 to ship the 06 stock to another BadWebber in FL last year.

Theres a guy that has a '08 low seat for sale. I wonder if it's different than the '06 low.
I wish I could find a dealer that knows the differences in these seats(06,08 low part #'s are not the same). if it ain't chrome...
These are some of the reasons I want to go to MBV. Don't think I could make it on this seat, if I can get away.

Hmm add me to the 'curious' list too. I've an 07 seat but thought a slight rotation/tilt toward the front was more what I am accustomed to. The local dealer has an XT, I wonder if the XB12X and XT used the same seats? I did pop onto the bike briefly in the showroom but it was hard to tell any difference.

Chris, I think any seat that you've never ridden on for any length of time is going to hurt a bit. Long distance riding is just like any other sport. It gets easier with practice. Your azz just needs to be conditioned. Just something to think about.

I sent my '06 Low seat to Spencer's for his upgrade. It feels good, so far; Once I manage to get out for a full day on the bike, I'll post my impressions.

Last Tuesday, I put in about 11 hours on my Uly. By the end of the day, I was getting a bit sore, but more in the keens and arms than butt or back. My seat has broken in nicely to my shape.

You didn't mention how long you have had your bike or your mileage. The seat does get better as the foam compresses to match the your shape.

Over four days, I did 1600 miles, and the seat never was an issue with me. Check out the Riding to Spring thread over in Tale Sections.

I have an '06. I use the '06 stock seat for any long distance riding that I do. I have never had an issue with the seams or any other complaints about it. I have done many 700 mile days and one with broken ribs and sprained ankles. Awesome long distance machine.

I have the '06 low seat also. I use it for around town trips and have found the gel seat gets a little hard for me and tends to restrict sliding around for the long haul. It is comfortable though.

I have also test ridden the '07 several times, for many miles and feel that the front of the seat is too narrow. I believe they reshaped it for the vertically challenged, but I seldom sit that far forward, and they put a step between the front and rear sections which interferes with my ability to move around.

On the long trips to stretch my legs while cruising, I slide onto the rear seat and let my feet dangle for a while. It helps keep my knees from getting too stiff and my legs from cramping.

I do the dangle leg thing as well, but my feet are only about a half inch above the ground. Not bad unless I find a seam.

I found that the rear seat area is wider which makes my feet hang higher. Still got to be careful around corners though.

For me the 06 seat is as comfortable as any I've used.

+1.6 on the 06 regular seat. Best seat in motorcycledom IMHO.
If you've got enough inseam, you can't beat it.

Chrisgrant; Spencer replaces the foam in your seat with a different, medical grade foam for a very reasonable price . I read an article on him in RIDER magazine, and decided to give him a try.
For me, the unmodified Low seat was good for about 500 miles; after that it became painful. I'm hoping that the new foam and gel that Spencer uses will make push that threshold up a few hundred miles.

FWIW I did have Spencer do the seat on my ST1100 and it did make a substantial difference. I am still a little too 'young' on my Uly (about 350 miles) to think about those changes....though I've found myself sliding up to the hump on the rear from time to time to vary the posture on the dreary portions of the interstate.

I thought that's what the passenger pegs are for.

tried out the new low seat today for 150 backroad miles. I also slightly modded the stock seat. I'll have to try it this week to determine which seat to use to go to MBV.

For everyone there is a different solution. My feet on the rear pegs are still not allowing me to straighten out my rusted knee joints for a while.

Sometimes I even stand up.

It amazes me how the seat saga still continues with this bike. I've never seen a seat so hotly debated on any other bike as on the Uly. Truthfully it is quite strange to see so many different reactions to them at that. Much like the bikes themselves, it seems that the seats aren't even the same within the specific years. I myself was on the '06 being the worst seat ever invented and wouldn't hit a dead dog in the ass with it group. It had nothing to do with inseam. I weigh 180lbs and the foam was way too soft and put my arse to sleep in 15 minutes and killed my back shortly after that. The seams just tore into my legs like a razor blade and the seat was too wide everywhere. My wife said the same of the rear portion being too wide and too soft. I can't see that seat being comfortable unless your legs are attached to the sides of your hips and you weigh under 150lbs. Dr. Greg across town will absolutely disagree with my statements completely though. I never tried the '06 low because I didn't need a low seat I needed more comfort. I bought the '07 and found it fairly comfortable. I liked the front portion best because I could get to where I felt I was close enough to the gas tank to be connected to the bike. It was still only good for 250 miles at best, but my knees were killing me by 150 so I would have to start dangling and stretching by then. My wife said the rear was more comfy on the '07 but the design was still too wide in the wrong places. I think the sad truth is that the bike itself is such a radical design that you either fit it or you don't and the seat won't help much if you fall outside the design parameters of their ideal rider.

The only complaint I have with the '06 seat is the seams. I got a little chafed from the seams on my last multi-day tour.
