Sittin in my garage here in AK, -15 today so probably no riding. Quite an upgrade from the KLR and I can't wait to ride it... Since I haven't even test driven one yet. Only one issue so far- The bike doesn't start, no fault of the bikes though. I watched the salesmen start and shut it down multiple times letting it run for less than 20 seconds so the plugs are fouled. At least it looks great sitting there. Dealer is going to send someone out to replace them in my garage so all is well, plus it will be a few months before I can drive it anyway.

Come on bro, throw on some thermals and hit the road. I did about 150 miles of backroading yesterday!!!!!

But I use heated gear so I am kind of cheating.

Watch how he changes the plugs, there are some tricks to make it easier like pulling the coil out of the way. Also, good high temp lube on the plug wire jackets will facilitate removal without breakage when your 5k comes due.

I guess this is a benefit of having bought from a poorly trained salesman. I had to work hard at getting everyone here to stop starting Buells before they have 50 miles on the odometer. We have a couple used XBs that are better for that purpose, already out of break-in ECM mapping.

Glad I did spread relegion now that the 1125r is here. That beast is more tempermental than an XB with under 50 on it.

I did mention that to the service guys when I bought the bike. So a free set of plugs is in the computer for me. Now I just have to wait for them to come out and do it. I will keep an eye on the procedure so I can do it myself if it happens again.

Congrats! That blue is mighty purty.

I fired up my Uly for the first time today in over a month. It was a balmy 38F here though. If it was -15 I would not have taken it out. It was fun riding it over the ice and snow in the alley. (The streets were totally clear though- just wet.)

But mine ran great even though it sat in my unheated garage for so long.

Man, thats a trip. I picked mine up yesterday and it was doing the same thing at the dealer. To much starting and stopping without riding fouls plugs.
They fixed that problem without changing the plugs. New for 2008. To clean the plugs, rocker switch in on position, full throttle, turn key switch on. The ignition fires for four seconds and cleans the plugs.
The bike started right up an purred. Trip, huh.

Ah I was wondering how the new plug cleaning system works, I always thought they had little scrub brushes that hide in the cylinder and come out when needed. : )

The new fuel injection system seems to be taking tips from all good aspects of any kind of other fuel injection.

My 93 mazda and my old chevy's that were injected had the same "sparkplug-conditioner" build into the system.

If you had problems starting the car, just hold down the accelerator WOT while you crank the motor and the fuel pump will NOT cycle just the ignition. Causeing enough heat to clean of any wetness on the plugs and kinda choke up on the motor for starting issues.

I beleive that the new buells have this. Am I mistaken? anyone?

I thought this was the case but havent gotten on a new 08' yet or worked on one at the shop yet.

Yes, the 08 Buells are supposed to have some sort of spark plug self-cleaning deal incorporated according to what an Anony has posted here.

"The ignition fires for four seconds and cleans the plugs. "

Maybe I should read the instructions... Nay, that's what BadWeb is for!!

Seriously, I wonder what other hidden buttons this thing has? Honey! where's the manual!?

Well I tried the 4 seconds of full throttle without cranking and it actually made an attempt to fire up. Finally got it running but when I touched the throttle after letting it run for a few minutes it died and now will not start again. I will try to get it running again tomorrow using the same technique. You guys are a great resource!

Success, it fired up today and I let it idle for about 5 minutes without any issues. I would advise to do the cleaning outside though, it backfired as soon as the key went to the on position and almost deafened me in the garage. Vagabond we will have to ride sometime this summer or winter if any more tropical winds blow through.

My Gerbing salesman gave me this very good advise: "Son, with today's technology there is no point in being cold!" I do live in Texas so I don't have to deal with too much cold, but I ride year round!

That is the honest truth. I love when I am out riding on a 20 degree day and always get the "Little cold to be on that thing isn't it." My only reply is that it is not cold it is refreshing!!

I like it. Mind if I use it? I get that question "Little cold to be on that thing isn't it" often too.
