Happened once because I had a cargo net between the seat and the tail. I assume it was putting too much upward pressure on the internal components.

sometimes you have to wiggle it around before it will move.

On my 06 it was a little stubborn when the bike was new. After using the thing a billion times it broke in and became easy to flip. : )

This thread kind of reminds me of the guy that had a triple tail, his pants fit like a glove.

Mine gets stuck all the time...then after riding a little it gets sloppy. I have new parts on hand...but the issue has not bugged enough for me to take the time to take the tail apart.

Seriously, now! My wife is the only one that can get my tail to work. My triple tail has beeen broke for 2 years now. Not worth fixing until I can't get the seat off.

Mine was stuck for a couple of weeks recently but it decided to cooperate sunday.
Looks like a pain to R&R from what I see.

Mine did that after a long trip. I think I might have over loaded it.

Loosen the handholds a little and it should loosen a bit and retighten. Lube it up and good as new.

Try pushing down on it towards the seat or a good hard downward slap towards the seat while pulling it to the side. Works every time for me. The seat provides just enough upward pressure on it to make it hard to disengage from the tapered splines.

Last week someone posted a link to a video review of the '08 12X, and in it the guy was moving the tripletail to each position without even putting a key in the slot!
Wish mine would do that.

Mine was stuck for a couple days and a couple trips where I really needed the bag, I just slid my triple tail bag over it. A KEY in the slot didn't give me enough leverage to unlock it, I had to use a screwdriver.

I shoot Silicone spray into the pivot when it gets sticky.

I use dri-slide once in a while on mine, to keep the 'gears' lubed up and keep 'em from sticking.

Disabling the key-safety is easy. Remove the left handrail. KEEP TRACK of what comes out with it!! There's a plastic detent in there with a spring and a pin. I forget exactly what I did...but if I had it in my hand again I'd be able to see it. Basically I disabled the thing's ability to "lock", and now I don't need a key in the slot to move the tail to the left and rotate it.

Silicone spray allows it to slide free and no greasy residue. I do the same with the ignition switch and all the other key holes, engine isolators etc. No such thing as too much silicone.

Now that picture would send this thread to the backfire board.

Mine does. Take the grab rails off, disassemble it, remove the black piece that goes against the spring where the key is inserted.
