Just 'thinking out loud here'...My bike is 2 years old early in Nov.

Registration, warrant, insurance and a new back tyre are all due. It has 27,500km and 30,000 sees a big drop in resale.

I use this as my company vehicle and want new one under warranty - which is also about to expire.

But no 08's are available down here till the 07's are all sold.

So now I figure I might see just how keen the price is on the leftover 07.

I really don't care about the turning circle. Doesn't bother me at all.

Don't need heated grips at all.
I still want the tall seat.

Will swap my black plastics for the orange on the 07.

Only thing that really was important to me on the 08 is the tps resets.

But if the price is tasty on the '07 - may as well, what?

Dave, is that really true on Buells? Their resale has traditionally been pretty low; maybe the mileage is a lesser factor with a Buell.

Don't forget no timing to reset, the improved oil pump, and increased redline on the 08.

If the only issue you've got on your 06 is a worn rear tire, I'd be tempted to keep it a while longer and wait for the 08.

Thanks for the thoughts. Good points.

My man at Auckland motorcycles told me to try and keep it under 30K 'because they drop over that mark'.

Local condition maybe. Resale doesn't seem that bad. (I'm a Triumph guy too.)

Oil pump - heat isn't an issue - very mild climate and I rarely travel at peak hour.

And then redline isn't a biggie either - Rarely go near it.

I only want 2 years and then I'll turn it over again.

But then - an 08 will be worth more in 2 years time.

taa.

will see what the numbers are next day or so.

I was also told the equivalent of "...no 08's are available down here till the 07's are all sold." here in the UK, however after calling around 5 dealers, I got one that said "sure, be here in 6 weeks". Now only three weeks to go before delivery.

Does Hamilton have a HD dealer?... Palmy North, Wellington?

Doesn't make sense to me to buy an 07' because you are concerned about the 06' resale price after it goes over 30,000km. Sounds like you'd just end up with the same bike but less miles on the Odometer and thinner wallet. I'd just keep the 06' and bank that money you'll save ( not buying the 07 ) for repairs that may or may not be needed. If having a warranty means that much to you, then consider the "cost" of acquiring that 07' warranty. Then consider waiting for an 08' or even longer for the 09' (can you say, Rotax??) and you might realize that your current 06' is just fine and much more economical to hang on to for awhile. Why toss out such a good friend.

I agree with Electraglider....all the upgrades to the 07/ 08's are nice but in a nutshell they don't amount to squat...My TPS on my 06 has only been reset once in 34K, had no effect, I can turn around very sharply (knowing proper technique), The oil pump is just fine as is the oil cooler, ..Ride the 06 into the ground...save the money...or send any extra $ to me ...

>>Why toss out such a good friend.<<

'Minimise the changeover cost'.

Not friends - just machines. No sentimental attachment at all. ; )

I've ridden my Triumphs into the ground and they now have little value.

Difference is this is a company vehicle. They are leased and it's all tax deductable - and I want the reliability of a new unit under warranty.

Not interested in the rotax unit either. I want 145 horsepower like I want another 50 demerit points.

>>My TPS on my 06 has only been reset once in 34K,<<

I've needed 4 in 27.5K km.
Of course that doesn't cahnge with the 07but it's the only thing that has 'bugged' me about the bike.

My wifes friend leases a new vehicle every two years and only drives about 12K miles in that period. she wants everything taken care of....If it is a company vehicle, tax write off....go for the 08....

Mr Danger....,

You know you want it. Spend as much time as forum-typing as annoying the dealers and I'm sure that they'll do the same as in the UK (order it).....

Go on...

PS - if it is a company lease, then just DELAY the whole process. Notice of lease; delay, return vehicle; delay, say you'll pay balloon: delay.... No sweat.

I get accused of spending all my time at www.amps.co.nz anyway thanks!!!

Different set up down here - It's H-D aus that is the fly in the ointment.

Distribution is all them and there are still black (just found out) and oranges in the 07 stock pool.

It might be months still - till the 08's are available.

Would not believe them re delivery times. They will be pushed to shift old stock, and transfer that pressure to you. But I reckon they'll move the 08's sooner than you think?

HD has never really taken off back home though eh? So I could be utter wrong! : ) (not the first time, not the last)

I really would hang out though. Unless you are only really after the new bike warrantee?

Can you buy an extended warranty to cover the big stuff on your current bike?? Then wait for the new one that you want.

There was no reason to require a better oil pump. I cannot recall anyone having issue with and 06 Uly oil pump. With a higher redline on the 08s they may need the new pump so it's only there to correct for something else that was changed. TPS resets are only needed once in a blue moon. Mine was done at the 1500 mile point and has run perfectly for the last 17000 miles with no need for adjustment. Frt spring dive isn't even a consideration for purchasing a newer bike. The only real valuable thing that the 08s have to offer a person is the extra turning radius.

There were some failures on '06 oil pumps on the 1203 motor, not just Ulysses. The first bike I planned on buying, a demo, lost the oil pump in the parking lot when I started it to test ride it. 750 miles on it. I called them over and they said, "oooh another oil pump. Common on Buells this year." I questioned my purchase but they offered me a 0 mile bike at the same price to get my business. There was something wrong with the '06 pumps, but I'm not sure what. I've never heard of an issue with the '07's.

It wasn't just the 06s it was the drive gear and the stresses the design put on it. it is a weak point in all of the pre-08
motors. On race bikes one of the first things most do is install a tougher drive gear to eliminate the problem.

I would try to hold off a little longer for the 08 if it was me, but only Dave knows all of the factors involved.

Well there's a lot of speculation for nought. I got the price to upgrade to an '07.

Pass.
