Going over my bike yesterday, i noticed the lower portion of wire form clip that keeps the clutch cable from rubbing the exhaust header was snapped in half, leaving a nice melted section on my clutch cable. I took it to my dealer today, and they would order a new clutch cable and pin and replace under warranty. I have to wait 3 weeks to get it fixed.  Any suggestions on a temporary quick fix until it's repaired? | ||

When it happened to mine, I made an appointment to get it fixed, then just rode the bike as usual until the wire form and new cable came in. The clutch worked fine, but some water was mixed with the tranny oil from riding in the rain. I wouldn't worry about it, unless the clutch starts to feel or act funny. | ||

Just tape up the cable and tie wrap it out of the way for now...There are more wiring problems under the air box base plate... (1)The heat sensor wire is laying on the right rocker box and (2)the rear spark plug wire is rubbing on the idle adjustment cable and (3) the Idle adjustment cable is rubbing on the cylinder head..AND I saved the best for last...........the four wires on the fuel pump are rubbing on the clip that holds them all together inside the gas tank. an Thought you would like to know the "Rest of The Story" | ||

All the wires except the ones on the fuel can be shrouded with different size fuel line and/or suspended with tie wraps to eliminate the chaffing. The fuel pump is another story. Pull your base plate off and check it out. The sooner the better. | ||

Adrian 8, Thanks for sharing your story with the fuel pump. I am going to check this out this winter. I wonder if the newer year models have a fix for this? | ||

The part number for the 07 bike is supposed to be different..so something has changed. | ||

I had this exact issue with the spring support breaking and then the clutch cable melting. I was lucky since the cable still worked so I was able to ride the bike until the new spring and cable came in. I simply bent what was left of the original spring to hold the cable off the header until it was replaced. | ||

Erz, that's exactly what i did. In fact, I might do that to the new one after it's replaced. | ||

Had three wire forms break so now my cable is held away from the header with 3 zip ties. Bad design IMHO. | ||

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they need a stronger gauge wire, or a small metal bracket. Needs to be re-evaluated by Buell for sure! |
