Yesterday I bought a bag of #9 lead shotgun shot and filled my handlebars with it. Took it for a ride and here's my report: Doesn't dampen any vibes that I can tell. Waste of time and money for the 25 lbs of shot I bought. Anyway, I'm real interested in hearing if those fat bars and clamp lessen the mirror shake. It's funny that my wife's new 1200 Sportster has plenty in the way of vibes but the mirrors stay crystal clear. Shorter stalks I suppose is why. |

Just get the Turono mirrors, they are about $40 a pair and they barley vibrate and they have much better visibility. |

We'll see how the fatbars work. I don't know if they will reduce the low frequency vibrations. These are the ones that really shake the mirrors. I think most folks use them for the high frequency "buzz" you get from singles. We'll see. I am modifying the mounting hardware for my HVMP bar ends to allow me to use them with the Pro Taper bars. Between the two, we should have the vibration thing licked. Now if I only had mirrors that were larger than a gnat's ass....... |

I have noticed that any quality alloy bar seems to vibe less than the factory metal bars. I have tried lead shot, lead shot and silicone, the barsnake, and the liquid barsnake and for me the standard barsnake works the best. Heavy rubber mounted barends (like the HVMPs) or oberons work very well also. Fastway (I think) makes a set of aluminum hand guards that connect to the barend and the conventional handlebar clamp (not Buell) that really stiffens things up. |

The standard bar snake helped the vibes for me. My fingers don't go numb anymore. However, I've yet to do a long trip with the mod. I may add the bar ends too. Mirrors still vibrate, but less than before. If you're running wires inside the bar for heated grips, the snake may get in the way. I have heated gloves. By the way, a D string for an electric guitar helped navigate the bar bends. The close hanger that they give you bunches up when attempting to snake it through. |
