just wondering if anyones fitted longer travel forks to a Uly yet? wasnt really in my plans for this winter, but the work for the new pipe, and undertail exhaust is being a PITA for clearance...doing the suspension work now would get me more than I need, so I'm trolling the knowledge pool here. Has anyone found / know of compatible forks, or forks+triples with 8-10" travel that will fit an XB? I can fab up a caliper mount reasonably easy ( access to a CNC table) but I'd rather not get into boring out the triples, or shimming/boring the forks for the axle shaft. only possibles I've found so far are the 43mm forks on the new BMW supermoto - anyone on here know what size the outer tube is on those forks? thanks in advance for an suggestions/ input chris aka ulendo |

Ulendo, did you ask this on ADVrider? I think it'd get some more airplay there. Are you talking about the forks for the HP2 Megamoto? I would think the forks for the regular HP2 would be tough enough to come by and $$$$$ Pricey. The new Megamoto was just shown in Milan and doubtful any have hit the streets yet. Ulendo, I think you're barking up the wrong tree. The Showa forks should have a reasonable cousin in the Japanese motocross aisle, complete with revalve options and tons of spring options. (Years ago I swapped Beemer R80 forks for some XR600 units. Just took a stepped adapter to use the larger Beemer headbearings with the Honda tripleclamps. Your mods should be much easier, since Buell elected to go with standard forks.) So I thought you wanted your CityX over the Uly because it was short??? |

So I thought you wanted your CityX over the Uly because it was short??? That's what I thought too. If you need more suspension travel, why not go with a Ulysses, or (gasp) an actual dirtbike? |

Ya mean y'all ain't been following Ulendo's project? It'll be a GS killer for sure. Not that the Uly doesn't already have some advantages... I'm sure Chris will post a concept drawing or two. |

longer TRAVEL. Longer travel=longer forks, but the Uly doesnt have enough, either, and would be even higher when built for ~10" travel. CityX with low seat is ~30" saddle height - still notably lower than even the '07 Uly, so I've got a couple of inches to play with right there, plus I can mess with about another 1.5" up through the triple clamps if I have to. Assuming 'static' ride is 1/2 way through the travel, that'd be 3" extra height(gaining only 1.5 at the seat) PLUS 3 inches extra static compression: 6", added to the ~4.7" stock travel means I should be at least in range I want going this route, with the bike at a manageable ~31.5" seat height. Ergo's are the deal breaker for the Uly though - it may be great for taller riders, but its terrible for shorter ones, and very much so for me (bar width, for example would aggravate the bursitis in my shoulders): cityX ergo's are perfect as is, and frankly, I prefer the '9'motor for what I'm doing. concept is an adventureX-supermoto bike, not an adventure tourer. DeBueller has seen me ride - I need wheel travel, and underside clearance for high speed FSR runs, with some very rutted/washed out sections, temporary bypasses, occasional rock section, or fallen tree, etc. Dirtbikes are great if all you want to do is play in the backyard - mixed riding, they're NFG, the range on them sucks, and 2 up + luggage for the occasional camping weekend don't happen either. Buying a manufactured, full on Supermoto with the capabilities I'm looking for cost more than the CityX+mods, btw, and would still only be 500-600 cc's, which isnt so cool for long distance mountain rides. When I do a weekend visit to family back in alberta, I pull 500-800 mile days for a couple of days straight. Red - I've been looking, but finding specs on the outer tubes, VS fork tubes makes things a bit trickier: if you know of some, or might have an idea, I'd appreciate the heads up ( kind of what I'd intended this thread for) was THIS the sort of photo you were thinking of?
