I've now had the Uly for 2 weeks and everything is going great. I've been lurking and following some of the problem threads and, happily, can report no issues on my Uly yet. The bike didn't have bags on it when I bought it so I installed those myself. I had to order the lower seat which still hasn't come in, supposed to get here this week.

I was a little concerned about the wobble issue with installing the bags but haven't gotten any at all. Cruising along at 75 is very comfortable with only minor wind buffeting. I am planning on getting a taller windscreen and the Touratech hand guard extensions which should make the wind even less of an issue.

I am 5'9" with a 31" inseam and really don't feel that the bike is that much too tall. That being said, I am looking forward to the 1.5" I will gain with the lower seat. I live in an area where the heat from the bike isn't really an issue so I'm not sure I'm qualified to respond to that issue. The surging at low RPMs is a little annoying but seems to be less so the more I get accustomed to it. This is my first Buell and I was a little skeptical at first but the bike really appears to be well made.

I really appreciate all of the informative posts and believe they have not only helped me to make an informed choice but are also helping me to keep an eye out for possible problem areas. Hope everyone is enjoying riding as much as I am.

Ron,
We live a short distance from each other. If you are interested in going on a ride sometime, send me a pm. My friends and I enjoy adventure rides, twisties, and multiple day tours. I ride almost every weekend and I sometimes have to ride alone.(sometimes those are the best rides!!). I know some great day rides right in our own backyard....pavement, gravel, dirt or otherwise.

Enjoy your Uly....I'm having a ball on mine.thumbsup

Hey, thanks for the invite Debueller. It's good to hear from a local XB12X. I'll drop you a pm.

Just an update....

Went out and did a 150 mile trip today up in the mountains along a river (read... twisties). The Ulysses is still going strong. Got to test it out on some gravel roads and rough pavement. This bike just simply eats up rough pavement... bad patch of broken asphalt in the middle of a sharp switch back? No problems! The suspension seems to absorb just about anything. The bike is much more stable on gravel than I expected, mind you, this isn't the bad stuff, just your run of the mill forest service road. Lots more traction than I was expecting... guess I just thought it would feel the same as a street bike. Noticed a bit more wind hitting me in the chest today but not really bad. Still, I'm thinking a taller wind screen might help but I hear some talk about more buffetting of the head... guess I'll just have to do some experimenting. Again, I hear a lot of people talking about how tall this bike is but I really seem to have adjusted. Slow speed manuevers and stopping are pretty much your standard non issue.

I would really like to give you guys a bit more negative feedback but so far I'm just not getting anything to complain about. Maybe when this honeymoon phase is over I'll start being a bit more critical of some of the little nagging issues or maybe something bigger will come up... hope not. Still having fun!

Best to all of you,

Ron,
Seattle area

Well, this bike excells on rough pavement as you say Ron, I think it also goes around tight smooth corners faster than a Lightning (which I also own - the Uly just feels a bit more stable) For the road it is excellent, for the dirt, it does it. It isn't what it looks like at all. If you like doing the rough paved backroads this bike has got to be amongst the very best, I love it when the front wheel gets airborne when you're not trying but under heavy throttle, because you've hit a dip and/or rise in the road.

I made a run out to Cook's Corner today with my cousin (he has a road king)...the Uly putted along nicely, although at one stop we made when I road over the curb and off another one, my cousin thought I was nuts.....This bike is amazing.......even had a few of the hard core harley or die guys asking me about it....
