Author Message   Fubar Posted on Monday, May 29, 2006 - 07:02 pm:        It was a lovely day in Nor Cal, and my Uly was begging to be ridden. I hadn't ridden in a couple weeks due to a minor surgery. I killed some time by installing Touratech hand-guard extensions, a freeway blaster horn and a Back-off tail light flasher. Weak substitute for riding, but beat staring and whining. Anyway... I pushed her out of the garage and started her up. As always, starts first try, no drama. I walked away to kiss my beloved goodbye and *crash*. She seems to have walked off the side-stand. The good news is that the HVMP Heavy Stainless Steel Bar End Weights and the frame puck prevented *any* real damage! Popped the hard guard off, but it just snapped back on, and there are manly scars on the bar ends and puck. I will hafta try to buff out the bar ends, but I cringe to think of that woulda happened of my Ultra or RK had done that. Once I got going, I was moderately surprised to find that the Touratech hand-guards made a significant difference in the high-speed stability. I think it's because they direct the airflow over the upper arms. I love it when a manufacturer's excellent design, augmented by the after-market *really work*. Always learning... fubar   Bienhoabob Posted on Monday, May 29, 2006 - 08:49 pm:        I was on a trip, packing the left side case. Pushed a little, to get the case shut and WAM. I pushed the whole bike over. Got almost the same result. Scuffed bag, scuffed HVMP bar end and the hand guard popped off. That's it. I thought I bent the plastic guard and left it popped off for the 900 mile ride home. To my surprise, when I let go of the throttle, the bike did not slow down, it just kept going. The part that snapped into the handle bar was resting on the HVMP bar end. I guess the force of the wind was stronger than the return spring and kept the throttle in position. I call it my "polish cruise control". It wasn't perfect, but worked. And best of all , my wrist didn't hurt after a long day of riding. I had them within a week of ordering. (I did order some in January and never got them. So I reordered. Hopefully I won't be getting another set.)   Javadog Posted on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 - 08:23 pm:        I created the same cruise control effect when I had the right side bar end tightened on too tight and too far in so it contacted the throttle grip. You could twist it fine but when you let go it would stay in the same place. Scared the **** out of me the first time it happened-thought I was going to go off a freeway bridge at 60 MPH!! Adventure sportbike indeed.   Johnnylunchbox Posted on Wednesday, June 21, 2006 - 10:26 pm:        Yeah HVMP says to check the bar ends at installation, and if a tipover occurs, to see that they aren't interfering with the throttle.
